FCS Prospects Use 2026 NFL Pro Day Circuit to Boost Draft Stock
Fernando Mendoza will throw at Indiana's pro day on April 1 as the pro-day circuit runs from early March into April, giving FCS and HBCU prospects from Monmouth to North Dakota State prime exposure.

The pro-day window that leads into the 2026 NFL Draft is now in full swing, and pro scouts will be circling specific dates as teams chase late-round value and immediate Day 2 upgrades. The Draft Network published a comprehensive pro-day schedule on March 3 that anchors a calendar stretching from early March into April, with the Draft set to begin April 23 in Pittsburgh; high-profile wrinkle: Bleacher Report projects Fernando Mendoza as the top quarterback on its big board and reports Mendoza will not throw at the Combine but will throw at Indiana’s pro day on April 1.
The consolidated schedule lists March 2 and March 5 openings through a busy March 18-27 stretch and into April. The Draft Network’s table places Minnesota, Penn State, and Stanford on March 18 while other outlets list those programs on March 19, a discrepancy flagged for confirmation; the calendar also shows marquee FBS pro days such as Michigan on March 20 and Notre Dame on March 24. The Draft Network’s list runs through April 10, when Towson is scheduled to host its pro day.
FCS and HBCU prospects figure prominently on the circuit and can use controlled workouts to climb big boards. Monmouth and Norfolk State are listed for March 10, North Dakota State and Stephen F. Austin are on March 19, William & Mary appears on March 24, Sam Houston State is scheduled for March 25, and Towson is set for April 10, all per The Draft Network with corroboration from other outlets. HBCU programs such as Alcorn State, Grambling State, Jackson State and Kennesaw State also appear in the calendar, with Alcorn, Grambling and Jackson State listed on March 26 in The Draft Network’s table.
Indiana’s April 1 session carries outsized draft implications because of Mendoza’s presence. Bleacher Report’s scouting notes call Mendoza "the top quarterback on the Bleacher Report Scouting Department's big board" and add that he is "widely considered the only surefire first-round quarterback in the 2026 class." Bleacher Report further states, "Fernando Mendoza is widely expected to be taken by the Las Vegas Raiders with the first overall pick in April" and explains Mendoza "doesn't plan to throw at the scouting combine... However, the reigning Heisman winner and national champion will throw at Indiana's pro day, in part, to help showcase his fellow Hoosiers." Marca calls it "the most anticipated event on the calendar" and suggests Mendoza's outing "could definitely define the order of the Draft."
Scouts and analytics shops caution that pro-day numbers must be contextualized. Pro Football Focus warned, "Pro days, of course, allow NFL hopefuls to operate in a more familiar and controlled environment. While pro day workouts must be taken with a dash of salt, they remain an important piece of the predraft process." Coverage compilers and calendar keepers also remind teams that schedules shift; Jeff Hartman of SteelCurtainNetwork advised that "these days and times are subject to change" and noted that "some schools can host two pro days to give their players the most exposure as possible."
With conflicting date listings for Minnesota, Penn State, Stanford, Kennesaw State and single-source entries such as Florida on March 26, teams and agents are expected to verify times directly with school athletic communications. For FCS and HBCU players from Monmouth to North Dakota State, the circuit offers a last tangible window to leap draft boards and attract scout visits before April 23, when final evaluations and pick decisions move from workouts to the draft room.
