Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday renaming Palm Beach International Airport the President Donald J. Trump International Airport, formally rebranding the South Florida hub where Trump regularly lands for trips to his Mar-a-Lago estate.

The law takes effect July 1. It passed the Florida House and Senate in February before DeSantis signed it, covering changes the governor's office described as pertaining to "Commercial Service Airports." The airport sits roughly four miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, and a stretch of road connecting the two has already been renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard.

Before the new name becomes operative in aviation systems, the Federal Aviation Administration must complete administrative updates to flight charts, navigation databases and physical airport signage. An FAA spokesperson said that "changing an airport name is a local issue and the FAA does not approve airport name changes," adding that the agency must complete "administrative tasks that include updating navigational charts and databases." Florida Rep. Brian Mast separately introduced legislation to change the airport's three-letter identifier from PBI to DJT. Trump's family business also filed a trademark application for the new airport name in February.

State Rep. Meg Weinberger of Palm Beach Gardens first filed the renaming legislation in November 2025. "America's greatest President deserves an airport that bears his name," Weinberger wrote on X. "A tribute to his extraordinary leadership and hometown roots." Mast framed the designation in terms of the county's ties to Trump: "He's called Palm Beach County 'home' for many years, and this designation reflects our gratitude for his public service and leadership." Eric Trump wrote on X that he was "proud to have played a small role in making this happen," a post that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller reposted.

The airport signing came on the same day Trump posted on Truth Social a video rendering of his planned Miami presidential library, an enormous mirrored skyscraper emblazoned with his name and the American flag. DeSantis worked last year to secure a Miami land parcel for the project. Trump, a native of New York, moved to Florida in 2019 and has since made Mar-a-Lago his primary residence.

The renaming fits a broader pattern since Trump returned to the White House. His name has been applied to navy battleships, national parks passes and, starting this summer, U.S. paper currency, which the Treasury Department said will bear his signature, the first time a sitting president has signed American money. Parallel efforts to rename the Kennedy Center and the U.S. Institute of Peace are also underway, though those may require congressional approval.

If the July 1 date holds, Trump would join a short list of presidents with airports bearing their names, among them George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, renamed in 1997, and Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, renamed in 2012.
