Forsyth unveils draft master plan for Polo Fields Park
Forsyth County released a draft master plan for Polo Fields Park proposing field upgrades and new amenities; residents can review and comment before leaders consider adoption.

Forsyth County Parks & Recreation released a draft master plan for Polo Fields Park (6050 Majors Road) on Jan. 16, 2026, inviting residents to review the proposal and offer feedback. The draft, shaped by a 2025 community survey and earlier public input, aims to preserve the park’s soccer fields while adding improvements and new amenities that respond to growing recreational demand.
At the heart of the draft is keeping soccer as the park’s core use, with options to turf some fields to extend playability and reduce weather-related cancellations. The plan also identifies opportunities to improve parking and circulation around the complex, addressing a frequent concern of parents, coaches and nearby residents during weekend tournaments and evening practices. In addition to field upgrades, the draft explores a menu of new features including a small amphitheater, tennis or pickleball courts, a dog park, an additional multi-purpose athletic field, a pavilion for events and a meandering tree-lined trail.
Those changes aim to diversify how Polo Fields is used, moving beyond a strictly soccer-focused facility to a community hub where events, casual recreation and multiple sports can coexist. Turfing would boost the park’s ability to host regional tournaments and year-round youth play, but also raises trade-offs for neighbors and county officials — including maintenance costs, stormwater management and the heat-island effect that can accompany artificial surfaces. Better parking and a pavilion could ease neighborhood congestion and provide covered space for league registration and local gatherings.
The draft is now open for public comment and will be presented to county leaders as the planning process moves toward final adoption. Residents who use the fields, live near Majors Road, coach teams, walk dogs or play pickleball should review the proposals and weigh the practical impacts — from weekend traffic to programming opportunities for Forsyth rec leagues. Public meetings and online comment and survey opportunities are part of the next phase, giving the community structured ways to shape which improvements move forward.
For Polo Fields users, the proposal represents a potential shift in how the park serves Forsyth County — balancing competitive play, neighborhood quality of life and broader recreational needs. Expect county staff to schedule public sessions and provide online materials and comment forms; residents who want their priorities reflected in the final plan should watch for those announcements and participate in the review process.
