Lorenzo Allen, 44, of Fruitland was arrested Feb. 12 after multiple 911 callers reported a 2009 black Audi A5 driving recklessly on County Road 6700, according to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office statement of probable cause and court records. Deputies Tim Moore and S. Hindes located the Audi on County Road 6815 and took Allen into custody, the affidavit states.

The statement of probable cause says callers advised the Audi “was driving in a reckless manner and nearly crashed into several cars on Road 6700, and was also driving in the center of the road at times.” Deputies responded at about 5:32 p.m., the probable cause summary records, after the series of 911 reports.

When deputies caught up with the vehicle on County Road 6815, the Audi was parked “approximately 8–10 inches away from striking the house,” the affidavit states. The probable cause narrative describes near collisions with several vehicles and notes the vehicle’s proximity to a residence on CR 6815, placing neighbors and drivers at risk in the immediate area.

Deputies Moore and Hindes reported Allen exited the vehicle and was “very unsteady on his feet” with “the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person,” the court record shows. Allen allegedly admitted to drinking a single bottle of beer and told authorities he was “test driving” the Audi, according to the affidavit. The probable cause states he refused field sobriety testing but submitted to a breath test that read 0.08.

Court records list charges of third-degree felony DWI and misdemeanor driving with a revoked license stemming from the Feb. 12 arrest. The affidavit and court documents further note Allen was serving a five-year term of supervised probation for a fifth DWI that occurred Feb. 27, 2023, in the same vicinity as the latest arrest; the new charges are described in the records as his sixth DWI charge.

Allen’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26 in San Juan County Magistrate Court, according to the court docket information included in the records. The sheriff’s office affidavit and court filings contain the cited observations, admissions, breath test result, deputies’ names and the specific County Road locations that form the basis of the current charges.
