Gallup Announces March 2 to 6 Detour for Curb and Sidewalk Repairs

The City of Gallup Public Works Department announced a temporary road closure and detour at the intersection of Aztec and Ford Drive, in front of the Best Western Inn located behind the El Rancho Hotel, for curb, gutter and sidewalk work scheduled March 2 through March 6, 2026. The public service announcement posted Feb. 27, 2026, lists daily work hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and uses the headline “Temporary Road Closures and Detour for Curb, Gutter, and Sidewalk Replacement.”

The City PSA identifies the project line as “Project:Curb, Gutter, and Sidewalk Repair.” The posting repeats both the header wording that says “Replacement” and the body wording that says “Repair,” so the announcement preserves both terms without specifying whether the work is limited to repair or involves full replacement at the Aztec and Ford Drive corner.

Motorists and pedestrians should expect a signed detour and temporary road closures during work hours; the announcement states, “Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution in the work area and follow all posted detour signage.” The City posting and a Facebook excerpt confirm dates and hours but do not include a detailed detour route; the Facebook fragment references “Traffic and Access Information: Eastbound traffic” without completing a routing instruction.

Separately, Gallup-area drivers should note a longer NMDOT project that began Feb. 23, 2026: N.M. State Road 118 between N.M. 566 and Navajo Boulevard will be fully closed for bridge work over the South Fork of the Puerco River, with eastbound and westbound traffic detoured onto Interstate 40. That NMDOT project, managed by District Six with contractor Siete Inc., is expected to keep the N.M. 118 detour in place through the summer and is a distinct project from the City of Gallup curb and sidewalk work.
