Gerald Dale Lowe of Jacksonville Dies at Age 100
Gerald Dale Lowe, born in 1926, lived a century of service in Jacksonville — as a veteran, 38-year food industry worker, and Boy Scouts Silver Beaver honoree.

Gerald Dale Lowe, a U.S. veteran and longtime Jacksonville resident who spent 38 years working in the city's food industry, died March 5, 2026, at Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester. He was 100 years old.
Lowe was born January 7, 1926, in Lincoln, the son of Wilmer Stanely and Frances Cora (Fielder) Lowe. He built his working life in Jacksonville, where he held a career with Anderson Clayton Foods and Kraft Foods before retiring after 38 years.
Beyond his career, Lowe was deeply embedded in Jacksonville's civic and community fabric. He served as a U.S. veteran and maintained his connection to military fellowship through membership in the Western Illinois Leathernecks, Detachment #1177. For many years he was also actively involved with Troop #103 at Centenary United Methodist Church, a commitment to scouting that earned him the Silver Beaver Award in 1979, recognized at the time as the highest award honored from the Boy Scouts of America.
Lowe was preceded in death by five brothers, Don, Weldon, Lyle, Dean, and Kenneth Lowe, and four sisters, Vivian McCammon, Beverly Mountjoy, Lela May Smith, and Jean Taylor. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 11, at Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A graveside service with military rites is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Diamond Grove Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Honor Flight. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com.
