Goshen senior Jimmy Kelly scores 65, sets school single-game record, reaches 1,000
Goshen senior Jimmy Kelly poured in 65 points in a 101-55 win over visiting Port Jervis, breaking Goshen’s single‑game record and surpassing 1,000 career points (1,016 total).

Jimmy Kelly erupted for 65 points as Goshen High School rolled to a 101-55 victory over visiting Port Jervis on Feb. 25, shattering the school single-game scoring mark and reaching the 1,000-point career milestone — a total MidHudsonnews reported as 1,016 after the game. Goshen improved to 17-3 and strengthened its position in the Section 9 Class AA race.
Kelly put up 30 points by halftime and kept up the pace in the second half to reach 65 for the night, adding to a senior season in which he is averaging 30 points and 12 rebounds per game, according to the Chronicle. The 6-foot-6 swingman also scored 51 points in a win over Minisink Valley the previous week, a stretch of performances that has defined his return from seasons affected by injury.
The 65-point outburst is not just a Goshen milestone. MidHudsonnews cited the New York State Public High School Athletic Association record book in reporting that Kelly’s 65 is a new Section 9 single-game record, topping the previous mark of 62 set by Alex Osowick of Port Jervis in 1957-58. The Chronicle placed the performance 10th on New York state single-game lists and noted the state all-time record remains 98 points by Chuck Kinney in 1954-55, providing statewide context for Kelly’s night.

Kelly credited teammates and family for the performance, saying, “It feels amazing, but I can’t take all the credit. My teammates, including my brother Sean, looked for me and got me the ball. I started hitting shots, and that gave me a lot of confidence. I was in the zone. I’m just still trying to digest it all.” Goshen coach Sal D’Angelo reflected on Kelly’s rhythm, saying, “I am super happy for the kid. Jimmy had some good touches, and he started hitting shots easily. The rim just gets bigger and bigger, and he just kept making them.”
A four-year varsity starter who reportedly played every minute of every game as a freshman and helped lead Goshen to a Section 9 championship that season, Kelly missed most of his sophomore and junior campaigns with injuries before returning to dominant form as a senior. The Chronicle listed him as a two-time Section 9 first-team all-star and twice named a Basketball Coaches Association of New York All-Star; the paper also noted he is a four-year member of the high school golf team with an eight handicap and plans to pursue college basketball while majoring in business.

Goshen’s next step is the Section 9 playoffs: the Chronicle reported a home playoff game scheduled for Thursday, March 5, with a Section 9 championship at Monroe High School set for March 7 if Goshen advances. Kelly’s scoring outburst has immediate postseason stakes — a singular performance that reshapes Goshen’s title hopes and sets new benchmarks for Section 9 scoring history.
