Grand Rapids Griffins Recall Defenseman Jacob Truscott from Toledo Walleye
Grand Rapids recalled defenseman Jacob Truscott from the Toledo Walleye, a move the club tied to its CopperRockGR Building Strong initiative.

The Grand Rapids Griffins recalled defenseman Jacob Truscott from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, the club announced, linking the transaction to the CopperRockGR Building Strong initiative amid ongoing AHL action. Truscott, a 23-year-old Port Huron native, signed a two-year AHL contract with Grand Rapids in April 2025 after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Michigan.
Truscott’s season has featured heavy shuttle traffic between the AHL and ECHL. The Chicagowolves transaction log in the period lists Truscott being assigned to Toledo on Nov. 8, 2025, recalled by Grand Rapids on Nov. 23, 2025, reassigned to Toledo on Dec. 3, 2025, and recalled again on Dec. 10, 2025. Those moves came amid simultaneous roster activity: Detroit recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson (Nov. 23 and Dec. 11 recalls noted), goaltender Carter Gylander was reassigned between Toledo and Grand Rapids multiple times (Nov. 9, Nov. 27–28, Dec. 13 entries), and Grand Rapids processed PTOs and releases for forwards Chad Hillebrand and Nolan Moyle across November and December.
Statistically, Truscott brings measurable production from the ECHL and limited AHL exposure. HockeyDB lists his 2025-26 totals as 36 games with the Toledo Walleye (3 goals, 12 assists, 15 points, +7) and six games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, +3). His University of Michigan resume includes 36 games in 2024-25 with 3 goals and 13 assists for 16 points. He made his pro debut Oct. 18, 2025, against the Manitoba Moose and recorded his first professional point an assist on Oct. 28 versus the Iowa Wild.
The back-and-forth reflects an organizational development plan for a player who was a fifth-round pick in 2020 (144th overall, Vancouver Canucks) before his NHL rights expired and he returned to Michigan. The Hockey News framed the moves as part of that development pathway, writing, “The reassignment to Toledo gives Truscott an opportunity to log more minutes early in his first professional season while continuing his development within the Detroit Red Wings’ organization.” The same outlet underlined the hometown storyline: “Signing with Grand Rapids in April marked a true homecoming as Truscott grew up following Michigan hockey and spent nearly his entire amateur career in the state.”
For Grand Rapids the recall adds a young, right-shot defense option with 15 professional points at the ECHL level this season and a +3 mark in six AHL appearances. With Detroit’s own recall activity — including emergency-level moves for Erik Gustafsson on Dec. 11, 2025 — Truscott’s role may remain tied to organizational needs and ice-time opportunities. His next appearances with the Griffins will be watched closely to see whether his ECHL production translates into sustained minutes and a more permanent AHL role.
