Grantham closes transfer station Fridays, seeks part-time attendants
Grantham has temporarily closed its Transfer Station to residents on Fridays, per a municipal calendar update on Feb. 25, 2026; the station is at 1150 Route 114 and lists Friday hours as 8:00 AM–12:00 PM on its site.

The Town of Grantham has temporarily closed its Transfer Station to residents on Fridays because of a staffing shortage, a notice posted to the town’s Notices & Announcements and municipal calendar shows; the calendar was updated on Feb. 25, 2026. The posting identifies the operational change but does not include further details about start date, expected duration, or alternate arrangements.
The Grantham Transfer Station is located at 1150 Route 114, Grantham, NH 03753, and can be reached at 603-863-9713 with fax 603-863-4499. The town’s Transfer Station information page lists standing hours that include Friday 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM–3:45 PM, Monday 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, Thursday and Saturday 8:00 AM–3:45 PM, and notes the facility is "CLOSED Tuesday and Wednesday, and all Town Holidays." The municipal calendar update dated Feb. 25, 2026 serves as a temporary override for the usual Friday hours.
The town’s posted rules require resident permits and attendant oversight: "Transfer Station Stickers are required and expire December 31st of each year." The site also directs residents to "stop and see an attendant when disposing of items," and instructs that decals should be mounted on the windshield "in the lower right corner" so attendants can verify residency from the Main Shop.
Grantham’s Transfer Station FAQs explain the operational reasons for attendant supervision. The site states, "The Town of Grantham is fined for items that are not placed in the proper places, such as propane tanks, tires, lithium batteries, electronic items and paint." It adds that "This can also cause unsafe conditions for the attendants at the Transfer Station" and that "The Attendants use their expertise to determine where that material should go to avoid increasing costs for the community."
The town page highlights recycling and brush rules with specific examples. "Why do I recycle cardboard, paper, aluminum, plastic, steel cans, and glass? The Town of Grantham receives credit from the disposal of these items, which is used to offset the cost of household trash. When residents do their part and recycle, it benefits the community by significantly reducing costs and the amount of household trash." On brush disposal the site explains, "There is a different disposal place for smaller size items and yard debris . The Attendants are able to use their expertise to determine where that material should go," and warns that "there has been a history of residents dropping carpets, pressure treated wood, and other items in with brush" that can lead to rejected loads or charges as construction and debris.
The municipal calendar entry that announced the Friday closure does not provide hiring contact information or explicit language about recruiting part-time attendants on the Transfer Station information page. Until the town publishes further details, the Transfer Station’s listed hours for Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday remain the operative schedule for residents, and the town’s sticker, decal and attendant procedures remain in effect.
