Hartford Wolf Pack ink forward Daniel Walcott to PTO
Hartford signs Daniel Walcott to a PTO, adding a veteran winger with leadership and AHL playoff experience to bolster forward depth.

The American Hockey League transactions log shows forward Daniel Walcott was signed to a professional tryout (PTO) with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Feb. 1, 2026. Hartford general manager Ryan Martin announced the move in a team release, signaling a low-risk veteran addition for a club managing injuries and roster churn.
Hartford framed the deal as a familiar return for Walcott, who made his professional debut with the Wolf Pack on Apr. 19, 2015. The release noted Walcott’s pedigree: drafted by the New York Rangers in the fifth round, 140th overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and with one NHL appearance for the Tampa Bay Lightning on May 10, 2021. The club cut straight to the roster fact: “New York Rangers Associate General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today that the club has signed forward Daniel Walcott to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).”
Walcott, 31, arrives after a long tenure in Syracuse. The Hartford release listed his 2024-25 totals with the Crunch as 61 games played, 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points, plus a +3 rating, and three Calder Cup Playoff appearances that season. The AHL’s league site highlights Walcott as the Syracuse Crunch franchise leader with 494 games, 56 goals and 91 assists for 147 points, plus 2 goals and 7 assists in 41 postseason games across runs that included the 2017 trip to the Calder Cup Finals. He served as an Alternate Captain in Syracuse for eight seasons (2017-18 through 2024-25) and won team and league service awards, including the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award in 2023-24 and five team IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year honors.
There is a minor discrepancy in the public record: a Foreverblueshirts report said Walcott was signed to a PTO on Nov. 27 and added that he “has three points in eight games with Hartford, and surpassed 500 games played in the AHL.” The AHL transactions log is described as the official ledger for same-day roster moves; both dates and the different games-played totals are reflected in the public reporting. Foreverblueshirts also chronicled Walcott’s early impact in Hartford, noting he “scored a goal in each of his past two games, including the game-winner Saturday against Bridgeport,” and that he “tied the game on Dec. 20 against Lehigh Valley to force overtime.” That item also pointed out Walcott’s physical style but low penalties with Hartford, saying he has had “one minor penalty since joining Hartford.”

Hartford’s immediate roster picture helps explain the move. Foreverblueshirts documented recent call-ups and assignments, including Dec. 26 promotions of Zakary Karpa and Sullivan Mack from Bloomington, a subsequent recall of defenseman Case McCarthy, and an assignment of Brett Berard from the Rangers. The Wolf Pack listed Justin Dowling and Bryce McConnell-Barker as day-to-day and Juuso Pärssinen as week-to-week, a mix that makes veteran depth on the wing valuable while the club often dresses 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
For fans, Walcott’s PTO is a pragmatic veteran pickup: he brings leadership, playoff seasoning, and familiarity with the organization. The immediate question is whether Walcott’s contributions in Hartford, goals in key moments and steady two-way minutes, will prompt the Wolf Pack to convert the tryout into a standard AHL contract as the roster stabilizes heading into the second half of the season.
