Hauppauge Middle School Briefly Locked Down After Gun Report; No Weapon Found
Hauppauge Middle School at 600 Townline Road was put on a brief lockdown Thursday morning after a report someone inside might have a gun; police searched the building and found no weapon.

Suffolk County police searched Hauppauge Middle School, 600 Townline Road, after the building was placed on a brief lockdown Thursday morning following a report that a person inside might have a gun, Hauppauge Public Schools said. Officers were already on campus about 10 a.m. responding to a separate domestic incident involving a parent and a child when the school district received the gun report.
Hauppauge Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Timothy McCarthy notified parents during the lockdown. “Our middle school is currently in a lockdown out of an abundance of caution after a report that a student may have a weapon,” he wrote. “Law enforcement is on site and investigating. We have no evidence at this time that this claim is true. [...] All students and staff are safe, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.”

Suffolk County police searched the middle school following the report and found no weapons, and authorities said the situation was resolved quickly. Police and district communications indicated there were no injuries and no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
Officials described the report as separate from the domestic incident that brought officers to the campus initially; Patch reported police were at the school “at 10 a.m. responding to a domestic incident involving a parent and their child,” and that police did not release additional information about that domestic matter. Suffolk County police provided the accounts that the search turned up no weapon and that the lockdown was precautionary.
School address and timing details in local reports place the response at 600 Townline Road and the police presence around 10 a.m. on Thursday morning. District and police statements emphasized student and staff safety throughout the search, and McCarthy’s alert reiterated the district would share more information as it becomes available.
Parents with children at Hauppauge Middle School who have immediate concerns should contact Hauppauge Public Schools for updates; district officials have said they will provide additional information when released. The county police and the district characterized the incident as resolved without injury or arrest.
