The House Ethics Committee said its inquiry into Rep. Cory Mills has become a wide-ranging formal probe, with investigators authorizing more than 20 subpoenas, collecting thousands of documents and contacting dozens of witnesses. The panel described the allegations against the Florida Republican as “serious and complex,” a sign that the case has moved well beyond an initial review.

The committee first established an Investigative Subcommittee on Nov. 19, 2025, to examine claims that reached across Mills’ public life and private conduct. The allegations include possible failures to disclose required information to the House, campaign finance violations tied to his 2022 and 2024 campaigns, improper gifts and travel, special favors tied to his office, sexual misconduct and or dating violence, and misuse of congressional resources or status. By saying the subcommittee had already authorized more than 20 subpoenas, the committee showed that it is using the House’s strongest internal fact-finding tools to build a record before deciding whether the matter should advance further.

The investigation centers in part on a February 2025 domestic assault allegation involving Mills at his Washington, D.C., apartment in The Wharf area. Metropolitan Police Department officers investigated the complaint, later presented the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and then closed the inquiry without an arrest. Mills has denied wrongdoing, said the allegations are politically motivated and said he complied with investigators while turning over documents to the committee.

A separate Florida court fight added another layer to the ethics review. In October 2025, a judge issued a protective order against Mills at the request of Lindsey Langston, a Republican state committeewoman and Miss United States 2024. Langston alleged that Mills threatened to release sexually explicit videos of her and harm future partners. The order barred Mills from contacting her or coming within 500 feet of her home or workplace until January 2026.

The ethics case has also become part of a broader House conversation about accountability in an election year. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., has pushed to expel Mills, while President Donald Trump has endorsed him for another term. Mills has said he will not resign and intends to seek re-election, keeping the political stakes high as the ethics panel continues gathering testimony and documents.
