Several hundred supporters packed the Enchanted Garden on Feb. 24 as Sacred Heart Catholic School’s fifth annual Taste of the Border Wine and Dine produced preliminary figures showing a record-setting haul for the Del Rio school. The wine-and-dine fundraiser returned to the Enchanted Garden after prior editions built the event into one of Sacred Heart’s primary annual drives.
The event, labeled Taste of the Border, is staged by Sacred Heart Catholic School to draw community supporters from across Val Verde County. Organizers reported several hundred attendees at the Feb. 24 evening event; preliminary accounting released afterward indicated the highest fundraising total in the fundraiser’s five-year history, though a final, itemized total has not yet been posted.
Sacred Heart held this fifth annual Wine and Dine in a venue long used for large local gatherings, the Enchanted Garden, which hosted the food stations, wine pours and silent-auction items that comprised the evening’s program. Attendance by several hundred supporters filled the Enchanted Garden’s event spaces and contributed to the preliminary, record-setting haul disclosed after the event.

The preliminary figures mark a notable fundraising milestone for the Del Rio elementary and middle school, which has run Taste of the Border annually since its inception. By surpassing previous years’ totals in preliminary returns, the Feb. 24 event signals increased local financial support for Sacred Heart functions and programs funded through the school’s annual drives.
Sacred Heart’s fifth annual Taste of the Border on Feb. 24 also underscores the role of community gatherings in Del Rio’s nonprofit fundraising calendar. With several hundred supporters attending at the Enchanted Garden and preliminary totals exceeding past years, the event establishes a new benchmark for the school’s fundraising efforts; the school expects to complete its final accounting in the coming weeks.
