State Rep. Shane Lindauer received formal recognition from the Indiana House as he concludes nine years representing House District 63, which covers all of Martin County and parts of Daviess, Dubois and Pike counties. Lindauer spoke on the House floor on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, reflecting on his time in Indianapolis as colleagues paused to honor his service.

Lindauer was appointed to the House on Nov. 1, 2017, to fill the remainder of Rep. Mike Braun’s term. Before state office, Lindauer served on the Dubois County Council from 2010 to 2014 and operated a chiropractic practice in Jasper. He also served in both the Indiana and Missouri Army National Guard and was appointed during his legislative tenure to the White River State Park Development Commission.

Over nine years in the General Assembly, Lindauer rose from a freshman lawmaker to vice chair and then chair of the House Natural Resources Committee. He also served on the House Roads and Transportation Committee. The House adopted House Resolution 21, authored by Rep. Greg Steuerwald, to honor Lindauer’s nearly decade-long tenure.

Lindauer’s legislative record includes authoring House Bill 1004 in 2021, which expanded the Hoosier Hospitality Small Business Restart Grant Program to help entrepreneurs recoup pandemic losses. In 2024 he sponsored legislation to incentivize public contractors to use Indiana business resources. Those efforts and his focus on pandemic recovery and small business support were cited as central priorities of his time in office. In recognition of that work, Lindauer received the 2024 Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Business.

Colleagues who rose to speak in the chamber mixed praise and personal anecdotes. Lindauer said, "Being trusted by my community to represent them at the Statehouse has been one of the greatest honors of my life." He added, "Every decision I made in this role was grounded in the values I was raised with: faith, service and responsibility. I’m very proud of the work I’ve done on behalf of Hoosiers in Dubois, Daviess, Martin and Pike counties. I’m grateful for the relationships and friendships this job has given me." Another reflection was, "This chapter of my life has been so incredibly meaningful."

Fellow lawmakers recounted mentorship and trademark moments. Rep. David Abbott said, "You took me in, explained everything, and we would go over each bill together," and, "You’re always thoughtful. You always gave full attention." Rep. Matt Hostettler told Lindauer, "You’re a good and faithful servant," and, "A lot of people look up to see what you’re going to do… You definitely emulate our Savior." Rep. Jack Jordan recalled Lindauer’s knack for committee work, noting he earned the nickname "Shane-nanigans" and teasing, "you’re missing the license plate cut off as it stands right now."

House Speaker Todd Huston praised Lindauer’s dedication to serving families, veterans and small businesses across Dubois, Daviess, Martin and Pike counties. The chamber rose in a standing ovation as lawmakers bid farewell to Lindauer and another retiring member, marking a moment of bipartisan gratitude.

For Dubois County residents, Lindauer’s departure means the end of a local presence with deep ties to Jasper, small-business advocacy and natural resources stewardship. He has said he looks forward to spending more time with his family while continuing to serve his community. The next steps will include choosing who will follow him in representing District 63 and watching how initiatives he supported - from pandemic recovery grants to buy-local contracting incentives - are carried forward in the legislature.
