Kevin Hart’s roast was built to look unruly, but Jeff Ross said the night turned most combustible when Katt Williams walked out. Ross described “real tension” in the room during Williams’ appearance, a signal that Netflix’s live comedy spectacle still depends on a delicate line between spectacle and personal history.

The Roast of Kevin Hart streamed live on Netflix on May 10, 2026, from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, as part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2026. Shane Gillis hosted the TV-MA special, Jeff Ross returned as Roastmaster General, and Hart sat in the center of a dais that also included Tom Brady, Dwayne Johnson, Katt Williams, Chelsea Handler, Lizzo, Pete Davidson, Draymond Green, Sheryl Underwood, Regina Hall, Big Jay Oakerson, Tony Hinchcliffe and Na'im Lynn.

Ross’s account underscored how tightly managed these events have become even as they sell themselves on going further than ordinary awards-show banter. He said Hart looked visibly tense when Williams hit the stage, then later described the after-party atmosphere as “over the moon,” with Hart “on cloud nine” and his wife Eniko enjoying the night. Ross also said he apologized to Hart afterward because he had missed part of the roast while he was in the bathroom.

The emotional center of the night was the long-running split between Hart and Williams, which the roast appeared to help settle in public. Multiple outlets reported that Hart extended an olive branch after Williams finished his set, and the two ended years of public friction with a hug and handshake. Williams leaned into the joke calculus of the format, saying they had to invite Hart’s enemies because the show had so little star power, while Hart used the moment to signal he wanted the feud to end.

The roast also reinforced Netflix’s formula of pairing insult comedy with celebrity crossfire and brand-safe choreography. Tom Brady, who hosted Netflix’s first “Greatest Roast of All Time” in May 2024 at the same venue, returned the favor by taking aim at Hart and even joking about Chelsea Handler, a reminder that the franchise now thrives on reciprocal humiliation as much as shock value. Brady’s roast had already become a streaming benchmark, drawing more than 26 million views by March 2026, and Netflix clearly aimed to recreate that reach with Hart.

Ross leaned into the production side of the show as well, wearing a replica of Eddie Murphy’s red leather Delirious outfit designed by his longtime stylist Roger Forker. He said he still wants to roast more people next, a sign that the format is evolving into a controlled arena where edge, reconciliation and star protection all share the same stage.
