Community First Hawaiʻi is hosting the Kuleana Health Fair today, March 7, at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, bringing free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, keiki activities and prize drawings to the community from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and no registration is required, and the program is presented in partnership with Hawaiʻi County, including the Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Krystle Chai, business manager of Community First Hawaiʻi, said the event is meant to be family-friendly and approachable, calling the fair a chance for neighbors to learn about wellness together. "Kuleana means responsibility - to ourselves, our families, and our community," Chai said. "We wanted to create an event where families can learn about their health in a welcoming environment while enjoying performances, activities, and time together as a community." She added that the Mayor’s Health Challenge and prize giveaways are a fun way to engage residents and celebrate healthy living together.

Organizers have scheduled a wide slate of programming for the Afook-Chinen stage and exhibit area. Free health screenings and educational health and wellness resources are available throughout the five-hour event, alongside fitness demonstrations led by local fitness organizations, Zumba sessions, line dancing and student performances. Puna Taiko drumming is listed on the entertainment roster, and keiki activities include bouncy castles and games.

A midday community feature will be the Mayor’s Health Challenge, with Mayor Kimo Alameda expected to lead community challenge exercises aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy habits. The program will be emceed by Augie T, noted by organizers to bring local humor and energy to the day’s activities. Prize drawings are scheduled during the fair, with a stated grand prize of round-trip tickets for two to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies and other giveaways planned.

Community First Hawaiʻi’s promotional posts also list opioid prevention and addiction support among the resources on offer, using the line "OPIOID PREVENTION ADDICTION SUPPORT ✓ HEALTH RESOURCES & FUN, GAMES & PRIZE GIVEAWAYS SCREENING" in social copy to highlight behavioral-health services on site. Food trucks and local craft vendors are set up outside the auditorium to provide meals and retail options for families during the event.

Attendees can find event details and updates on Community First Hawaiʻi’s official website and social media channels. The Kuleana Health Fair runs the same day Hilo Public Library marks its 75th anniversary, offering residents multiple community options on Saturday.
