Lake Superior Woodturners Meet February 14 at New Dorfman Co. Shop
Lake Superior Woodturners will meet Feb 14 at the new Dorfman Co. shop in Superior, WI for a sanding and finishes program; setup and coffee start at 8:30 AM.

Lake Superior Woodturners will convene at the new Dorfman Co. shop for their February meeting, bringing a practical program focused on sanding and finishes to turners across the region. The meeting runs 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, with setup, lathe placement and informal coffee time beginning at 8:30 AM.
Half-hour before the meeting: Meeting set-up (Chairs & Lathe) plus coffee & chatter! Attendees are asked to follow the club sign-in routine: "When you get to the meeting, please sign in so we know who is attending, and wear a name badge to help those who are not familiar with who we are put names to our faces." The club will meet at 1314 Ogden Avenue, Superior, WI in The Dorfman Co. building, marking a move to the new shop location for the group.
The agenda opens with formal business items: "PRESIDENT REPORT – Susan Van Loon Runnoe" will lead the club update, followed by "TREASURE REPORT – Paul Howard: Current balance, Income and Expenses." Old business and new business items follow before the hands-on segments.
The show-and-tell and program center on finishes. The agenda labels show-and-tell explicitly and describes the planned format: "Our format will be similar to our Show and Tell. Each person will be able to describe the finish, share example. Multiple finishes are welcome if time permits." The program sequence is spelled out: "The program will start with a brief discussion about sanding. Following that, we will discuss various wood finishes, application methods and then discuss what we like, and what we don’t like about them." The page indicates that volunteers had signed up but does not list names or topics under the line "Those who have volunteered so far and their topics are:"; those interested in presenting should contact John Skarja at jfskarja@yahoo.com to join the lineup.

Safety and community engagement are baked into the agenda with a "SAFETY MINUTE: Open Discussion – Best practices, what to do and what not to do in the shop." A raffle is listed on the agenda as well, though the posted notice provides no further raffle details.
The club page also highlights membership and archive resources for members: "Click here to download 2025 – 2026 Meeting Schedule" and "Click here to download 2025 – 2026 membership form," and points to meeting photo pages stretching from April 2025 through January 2026. The site expresses appreciation for member outreach elsewhere with the note: "Thank you to Ray Hyde and the Lake Superior Wood Turners for their donations of Wig Stands! We have been blessed by this amazing contribution on more than one occasion."
For turners who want to refine finishing technique, compare application methods, or bring an example for critique, this meeting provides both instruction and peer feedback. If you plan to attend, arrive early for setup, sign in, wear a name badge, and consider contacting John Skarja to volunteer a finish demonstration.
