Leaked Bohemian Grove List Links San Francisco Giants Owners to 2023 Gathering
A searchable Substack leak names Giants principal owner Charles B. Johnson and chairman Greg Johnson among more than 2,000 people linked to Bohemian Grove’s 2023 encampment in Monte Rio.

A leaked, searchable membership list published on Substack by journalist Daniel Boguslaw includes the names of San Francisco Giants owners Charles B. Johnson and Greg Johnson among more than 2,000 people tied to the Bohemian Grove encampment for 2023. The document reportedly links named individuals to specific camps during the two-week July retreat at the Bohemian Club’s compound in Monte Rio.
“The more than 2,000-name list was published on Substack by independent journalist Daniel Boguslaw and first reported locally by the San Francisco Standard,” Sonomanews noted when summarizing the rollout of the file. The list, as circulated online, identifies camp assignments and a roster of prominent business, political and cultural figures for the 2023 season.
Claims about the list’s authenticity are in dispute. “The California Post confirmed the authenticity of the list, which named 2,000 people and the camps they belonged to when they descended on Monte Rio, two hours north of San Francisco, in 2023,” is language repeated in coverage of the leak. At the same time, Sonomanews cautioned: “This news organization has not independently verified the document, and it is unclear whether it reflects confirmed attendees, invited guests or club members.” Reporters pointed to the presence of Paul Newman, who died in 2008, as a sign the file may include historical or membership records rather than a contemporaneous attendee list.
The document as published names several figures tied to Bay Area sports ownership and corporate networks. Charles B. Johnson is identified in the files and has been described in published coverage with a net worth of $6.1 billion; Greg Johnson is listed as team chairman and as Charles Johnson’s son. Rupert Johnson Jr., Charles Johnson’s brother, also appears on the file and has been cited in coverage with an estimated net worth of $4.8 billion. A Giants fan site reported a broader claim that five Giants owners were listed, but the items in the leaked roster that are explicitly named in the documents available to local outlets include Charles B. Johnson, Greg Johnson and Rupert Johnson Jr.
The roster contains other high-profile names: Conan O’Brien, Michael Bloomberg, Eric Schmidt, Paul Pelosi, Charles Koch and Edwin Meese III were listed, along with heirs to the Bechtel, Fisher and Mondavi fortunes. Sports figures named include John Fisher; Byron Deeter was listed on the Haven camp roster in 2023, noted as appearing there “before he owned the team.” The files also include camp names such as Camels, Cave Man, Dog House, Valhalla, Wild Oats and Haven as assignment designations.
Sonoma County context in the reporting underscores the club’s scale and secrecy. “The retreat unfolds each July at a private 2,700-acre compound, where members are divided into camps with names such as Camels, Cave Man, Dog House, Valhalla and Wild Oats,” Sonomanews wrote, and sources note the Bohemian Club’s long history since its founding in 1872. The club “declined to comment on the names and does not publicly confirm its membership or guest lists,” a statement included in local coverage.
Until further independent verification is obtained — including review of the Substack posting metadata and clarification from the California Post and the Bohemian Club — local observers and journalists say the document’s precise meaning as a 2023 attendee list, a membership roll, or a blended historical record remains unresolved.
