Leica Leitzphone Goes Global with Leica-tuned 200MP Zoom, 1-inch Sensor

Leica and Xiaomi took the stage in Barcelona as the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi made its global debut alongside the Xiaomi 17 series, bringing a Leica-tuned camera stack built around a 1-inch 50MP main sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto. Engadget and Leicarumors list the recommended retail price at €1,999, with Engadget converting that to roughly $2,362, and multiple outlets note this model is being rolled out beyond the Japan and China releases of earlier Leitzphone handsets.

Availability is already moving from teaser to sales. Leicarumors reports the Leitzphone will be available from today in selected markets via the official Leica website, Leica Stores, and selected partner channels. Engadget says the device is now rolling out in Europe but flags that it is unclear if the phone will ever come to the US. 91mobiles explicitly states it is not known whether the device will make it to India, underscoring a staggered global rollout rather than a uniform worldwide launch.

Imaging details are the device’s headline. Core hardware and system notes tie back to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra lineage. 91mobiles and Engadget report a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display, with Androidheadlines adding a 6,800mAh battery figure and a Geekbench AI listing that suggests a possible 16GB RAM option and that the phone may boot Android 16. Digitalcameraworld frames the Leitzphone as the international version of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica that launched in China in December, with small cosmetic changes such as a uniform black rear and rotated Leica branding noted by 91mobiles.

Positioned as a premium photographic flagship at €1,999, the Leitzphone targets users prioritizing camera hardware and long-range zoom, while outlets like 91mobiles warn Apple and Samsung ecosystem users may find fewer reasons to switch.
