A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of Finbar Sullivan at Primrose Hill, with police set to bring the case before Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Oliuwadamilola Ogunyankinnu, of Southbury Road, Enfield, was arrested on Friday, 10 April, and charged on Sunday, 12 April, over the death of the 21-year-old.

Metropolitan Police detectives said officers were called to reports of a fight at about 6.41pm on Tuesday, 7 April, at the north London beauty spot. Mr Sullivan was found with stab wounds near the viewpoint and died at the scene, turning a busy public landmark into the centre of a murder investigation. Police also said a second man, believed to be in his 20s, was found nearby in Regent’s Park Road with knife wounds and taken to hospital.

A separate arrest was made as inquiries continued. A 25-year-old man detained on suspicion of assisting an offender has now been released with no further action, police said. The Metropolitan Police has not named a motive in its charge announcement, leaving the circumstances surrounding the confrontation to be tested through the court process.

The attack has drawn attention because Primrose Hill is one of London’s best-known viewpoints, a place associated with open parkland and city views rather than violent crime. The case adds to wider concerns about knife-related violence in public spaces and the difficulty police face when serious assaults unfold quickly in crowded, open areas. The fact that officers were called to a reported fight, rather than a pre-planned incident, also points to how rapidly everyday disputes can escalate into lethal violence.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to upload it to the Metropolitan Police’s online major incident portal or call 101, quoting reference 6448/07Apr. For now, the case moves from the scene of the stabbing to the courtroom, where the evidence behind the charge will be examined and the unanswered questions over what led to the killing will begin to be tested.
