Mebane plastics plant to close, 59 local workers facing layoffs in February
Precision Concepts International filed a WARN notice on December 4, 2025, saying it will permanently close its Mebane facility at 1403A South Third Street and lay off 59 employees effective February 1, 2026. The closure removes a small but significant manufacturing presence in Alamance County and comes amid a series of acquisitions and an ownership change at the company.

Precision Concepts International notified the N.C. Department of Commerce on December 4, 2025 that it will close its Mebane plant and lay off 59 workers, with the permanent closure scheduled to take effect on February 1, 2026. The company filed the required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification for the site at 1403A South Third Street after determining the facility will cease operations within the next two months.
Precision Concepts is headquartered in Huntersville and manufactures rigid packaging products for the food and beverage, personal care, and dietary supplement industries. The Mebane site represents a local footprint within a larger operation that the company lists as having roughly 1,200 employees across other U.S. and Canadian facilities. The WARN filing triggers notice to state workforce agencies and begins the formal process for unemployment and retraining services for affected workers.
The closure follows a period of rapid change at the company. In March 2025 Precision Concepts acquired Meredith Springfield Associates, a Massachusetts based blow molding and recyclable container design firm, and in November 2025 the company completed its purchase of New Jersey based Comar Packaging Solutions, which serves healthcare packaging markets. In July 2025 a private equity firm, The Sterling Group of Houston, entered into an agreement to take a majority ownership stake in Precision Concepts. Observers will note that mergers and ownership changes often lead firms to consolidate operations in pursuit of cost efficiencies and strategic alignment.

For Alamance County the immediate impact is the loss of 59 manufacturing jobs and potential downstream effects for local suppliers and service businesses. The WARN filing obligates state commerce and workforce agencies to offer retraining and placement services, but details on severance, transfers, or relocation options were not included in the notice. It is unclear whether any Mebane employees will be offered positions at other Precision Concepts locations.
The decision underscores broader trends in the packaging industry toward consolidation and recyclable lightweight materials, even as it delivers a near term economic shock to a small manufacturing community here. Local officials and workforce partners will need to act quickly to connect displaced workers with benefits and reemployment opportunities.
