Mini-bike Rider Killed After Pickup Truck Strike on 290 Feeder Road
a mini-bike rider was killed after a pickup truck struck him on the 290 westbound feeder near Spring Cypress Road; deputies say the crash remains under investigation.

A rider on a mini-bike was killed after being struck by a pickup truck on the Northwest Freeway/Highway 290 westbound feeder road near Spring Cypress Road Tuesday evening, Harris County deputies said. The collision left the rider trapped beneath the truck and prompted a police investigation that narrowed the feeder to a single open lane for hours.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies responded to the fatal crash and confirmed the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. "The mini bike rider was pronounced deceased at the scene, Gonzalez said." Deputies and investigators remained on scene in the 25900 block of the westbound feeder as aerial units and first responders worked the investigation.
According to preliminary information from investigators, the pickup was turning right into a private drive when the mini-bike failed to yield the right of way and was struck as the truck turned. "The dirt bike/mini bike failed to yield the right of way as the truck was turning right and was struck by the truck... The truck ran over the dirt bike/mini bike and the operator trapping them both underneath the truck," officials said. Eyewitness images and aerial footage showed heavy law enforcement and emergency response activity while crews processed the scene.
Investigators said the pickup was preliminarily identified as a Ford F-150 and that deputies found a rider underneath the vehicle. One outlet reported the rider as a Black male at the scene; investigators have not released the victim’s name or age. "The identity of the victim has not been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation," officials said. Authorities also indicated preliminary findings that "Speed is not a factor in the crash, officials said," and that "Officials stated the driver of the F-150 showed no signs of impairment."
No arrests, charges, or additional injuries were reported immediately following the crash. Local traffic was impacted while investigators worked; only one westbound feeder lane remained open during the response, causing delays for evening commuters on the Cypress corridor. Aerial video from news helicopters helped document the scene and the scale of response, and investigators are seeking any footage or tips that could clarify the sequence of events.
Beyond the immediate investigation, the crash underscores ongoing safety challenges where fast-moving commuter traffic meets smaller off-road vehicles on feeder roads. For residents who commute on 290 or live near Spring Cypress Road, the incident is a reminder of the hazards that can arise when nonstandard vehicles use service roads intended for higher-speed traffic.
Harris County investigators continue to gather evidence and have not released additional details. Officials ask anyone with information or video of the collision to contact investigators; local news outlets will update readers as HCSO releases more information.
