Minimal Audio launches Current 2.2 with Poly Flanger, new scales, streamlined activation
Minimal Audio has released Current v2.2 — a free update for existing Current 2.0 users that adds a Poly Flanger, Phrygian Dominant and Melodic Minor scales, and single-click activation.

Minimal Audio has released Current v2.2, a free update for existing Current 2.0 users that brings a novel Poly Flanger effect processor, additional scale options including Phrygian Dominant and Melodic Minor, an updated FX selector, and a simplified single-click activation and trial workflow. The company and multiple news outlets also report a package of stability fixes, improved visual clarity, and broader musical-range refinements as part of the v2.2 rollout on March 4, 2026.
Current is positioned as Minimal Audio’s flagship multi-engine synthesizer for modern production, and the plugin’s architecture is central to what v2.2 changes. The synth ships with five powerful engines, advanced modulation and built-in MIDI tools, and affords no fewer than nine effects slots that can be filled, for the most part, with full equivalents of Minimal Audio’s DAW plug-in effects. Current also connects to the internet to access additional presets, wavetables and samples, and earlier updates — notably the Wave Shifter and the Play section with XY pads — established its forward development path.
The Poly Flanger appears in two forms in the recent timeline: it was released as a standalone Poly Flanger plugin in mid-February, and that same novel effect processor is now integrated into Current 2.2. Minimal Audio previously rolled out effects for Current step by step as separate plug-ins; v2.2 consolidates at least this recent effect into the synth itself. Reports describe the Poly Flanger as a fresh addition to Current’s effects pallet and part of the broader set of refinements in the 2.2 update.
Platform compatibility and pricing remain unchanged from the Current 2.0 era: Current runs as VST, VST3, AU and AAX on macOS (Intel and native Apple Silicon) and Windows. Minimal Audio describes v2.2 as a free update for existing Current 2.0 users; for new customers, the synth is available at a full price of $199 USD through retailers named in industry listings — Plugin Boutique, AudioDeluxe — and directly from the Minimal Audio store. Earlier pricing history is part of the record: Current 2.0 launched with an introductory price of $99 and was offered in a rent-to-own package for $15 per month.

Minimal Audio has framed its update strategy as customer-friendly: the company said, "future incremental updates to Current (to maintain compatibility with new operating systems and so on) will be free to anyone who’s ever used it, via licence or subscription, whether their plans have lapsed or not." That policy underpins the v2.2 release and signals continued development from the Minneapolis-based developer.
Reports note that v2.2 bundles unspecified stability fixes and "additional improvements across the plugin" without publishing a full changelog in the available coverage; the update nonetheless consolidates the recent Poly Flanger work, extends scale choices, and smooths activation and trial flows for Current users.
