Auto-body shops in Suffolk County and apartment residents across Long Island were targeted during a 17-day crime spree from July 19 to Aug. 4, 2025 that led prosecutors to indict nine men on a 38-count indictment, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge. The indictment alleges 10 burglaries, three armed robberies and multiple motor vehicle thefts and carjackings, and prosecutors say the group stole “tens of thousands” of dollars during the run of offenses.

The indictment names two defendants publicly so far: Savion Jones, 22, of Huntington Station, and Leny Cruz, 23, of Brooklyn; the other seven men were not identified in initial coverage. Newsday reported that seven of the nine defendants were bail eligible and were due back in court next month, while Jones and Cruz were not bail eligible and could not be reached for comment.

Detective Matthew Messina of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Intelligence Section and Detective Investigator Jean Graf of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Gang Task Force led the probe, the DA’s office said. Assistant District Attorneys Sean Buckley and Matthew Laube of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau are handling prosecution of the 38-count indictment, which includes conspiracy and multiple burglary-related charges beyond the enumerated counts.

Prosecutors described a multi-jurisdictional pattern that began in Suffolk County and extended across Long Island into New York City, Westchester County, Dutchess County and as far south as Florida. The U.S. Marshals Service participated in the investigation but did not attend the Hauppauge press conference; New York State Police and NYPD representatives were present alongside Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon and County Executive Ed Romaine.

The Suffolk County DA’s Office released surveillance video and prosecutors played still captures in court and at the press event showing a suspect inside an auto-body shop during a July 2025 burglary; Patch reported that license plates and cash were taken in that break-in. Federal partners, including the ATF, publicly commended the cross-agency effort to hold the alleged ring accountable, officials said.

Tierney framed the case as an example of interagency cooperation: “This indictment is another example of my office’s commitment to holding organized criminal enterprises accountable. Through collaboration with our law enforcement partners, we were able to uncover, identify, and charge this Suffolk County-based operation with a pattern of robberies, burglaries, and car thefts spanning multiple jurisdictions from Long Island to Florida.” Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
