Oak Harbor declares Blue and Green Day on Jan. 23 for Seahawks
Oak Harbor will mark Jan. 23 as Blue and Green Day to rally local support for the Seahawks ahead of the NFC Championship game.

Oak Harbor will wear Seahawks colors this Friday after Mayor Wright officially declared Jan. 23 “Blue and Green Day,” inviting city employees, families, students and businesses to show their support ahead of the NFC Championship Game. The proclamation asks residents to don Seahawks blue and green and capture the community spirit before the team takes the field.
The mayor framed the event as a bit of civic fun tied to regional pride. “Like many of you, I’m a huge Seahawks fan, and sometimes it’s nice to have a little fun on a Friday while showing our support for the Hawks,” Wright said. “This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and rally behind our Seattle team.” City leaders encourage people to post photos to the City of Oak Harbor’s Facebook page or email images to info@oakharbor.org so Oak Harbor’s support can be shared across the community.
The timing ties directly to a major regional sporting moment. After shellacking the 49ers, the Seahawks will play the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle. A win would send the team to the Super Bowl, giving Oak Harbor residents another milestone to celebrate locally and across Island County.
For residents, Blue and Green Day offers low-effort ways to participate in a shared civic moment. Schools and workplaces can adopt a color-theme for the day, families can wear team colors to evening plans, and small businesses may choose to add Seahawks accents to storefronts or employee uniforms. The initiative is intended to boost community morale and create photo-ready moments that reflect Oak Harbor’s local flavor and ties to the Puget Sound region.
The declaration is light on operational changes; it is a civic encouragement rather than a citywide mandate. Participation is voluntary, and the city is collecting photos to capture how Oak Harbor turns out for the Hawks. For 12s in Oak Harbor, it is a chance to flex local pride and enjoy Friday energy while sending a visible show of support down I-5 to Lumen Field.
Whether you wear navy and neon or simply cheer along from home, the city’s Blue and Green Day gives Island County residents a simple way to connect over a regional milestone. If the Seahawks advance, expect more community-driven moments in the days that follow.
