Offset rolled onto the stage in a wheelchair at the University of Arkansas and later stood up to perform, a stark return for the 34-year-old rapper less than a week after a shooting outside a Florida casino. The appearance turned a concert into a public reminder of how quickly violence can spill from nightlife venues into the entertainment business itself.

Offset, whose legal name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot Monday, April 6, in the valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, just north of Miami. Police said the shooting followed a fight. Authorities described his injuries as not life-threatening and said he was in stable condition. By Friday, a spokesperson said he had been released from the hospital and was “up and walking,” and Offset later said he was “good” and “planning to be better.”

The shooting drew immediate attention because it happened at a high-profile entertainment property, where security, traffic flow and crowd control are central to how casinos and concert venues operate. The valet area, like many parking and arrival zones around nightlife destinations, can become a weak point when disputes move beyond the front doors and into spaces where patrons, staff and private security are all trying to manage the same scene. Reporting said two people were detained and one person was charged in connection with the investigation.

Offset’s first performance after the shooting came Saturday, April 11, at the University of Arkansas’s Rowfest in Fayetteville. He was rolled onto the stage in a wheelchair before later getting up to perform, a visual that underscored both the speed of his recovery and the pressure high-profile performers face to keep working even after a violent interruption. The episode also revived interest in the hazards that can follow artists beyond the stage itself, especially when venues are tied to gambling, nightlife and large late-night crowds.

The personal backdrop is equally heavy. Offset is one-third of Migos, and his cousin Takeoff, another member of the group, was killed in 2022. His estranged wife, Cardi B, secretly married him in September 2017 and filed for divorce in 2024. With one shooting investigation still open and another violent loss already in the family, Offset’s return to the stage carried more weight than a routine comeback set.
