The Parker Rotary Club will stage the 35th Annual Buckskin Mountain Desert Dash on Saturday, Feb. 14, offering a 5K mountain bike, 5K run and 5K fitness walk that begins on Cienega Springs Road and finishes at the remote desert saloon listed as the Desert Bar or Nellie E. Saloon. Organizers list a 9:00 a.m. start while registration and parking open at 7:00 a.m., and entrants should plan for graded-road terrain through the Buckskin Mountains.

Organizers describe the course bluntly: "PLEASE BE ADVISED the course runs through the Buckskin Mountains. The course is a graded road. This course lends itself not to a race but to a test of determination and adaptability." The route is rugged and remote, and the club warns that "THE COURSE WILL BE CLOSED TO ALL NON-AUTHORIZED TRAFFIC FROM 8:45 TO 11:00 a.m. Since this is the only route, vehicles must be off the course by the 8:45 closure.
