Paul Seidel, 84, of Clitherall Dies After Short Battle Lake Nursing Stay
Paul J. Seidel, 84, of Clitherall, died Feb. 26 after a short stay at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home; visitation and funeral are set for March 6 at Glende-Nilson in Battle Lake.

Paul J. Seidel, 84, of Clitherall, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, after a short stay at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home," the Glende-Nilson obituary states, listing the Battle Lake nursing home as the place where his final care occurred.
Seidel was born September 4, 1941, in St. Paul to Paul and Irene Seidel and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1960. The obituary notes that he met Joellen Dunn at Hull’s Landing on West Battle Lake in 1960 and that they were united in marriage on February 18, 1964. He was drafted and joined the Army Reserves in 1964.
His working life tied him closely to local businesses. Glende-Nilson’s obituary says Seidel "had a fulfilling career working for Mark Sand and Gravel for a total of 35 years." He and his wife operated NAPA Auto Parts in Battle Lake from 1983 to 1990, then he worked for Lampy Ready Mix for three years before returning to Mark Sand and Gravel until his retirement in 2005.
Seidel also served in local government, acting as a City of Clitherall council member for many years, a role the obituary credits as part of his community involvement. His combination of small-business ownership and long-term industrial employment made him a familiar figure across Battle Lake and Clitherall civic circles.

Survivors listed in the Echovita reproduction of the obituary include his wife Joellen (spelled JoEllen in some listings), sons Dean (Nancy) and John; grandchildren Cory (Samantha), Kaila (Dorian), Megan (Jake), Travis, Kimberly (Brian) and Nicole (Josh); and great-grandchildren Leland, Ryland, Brylie, Myles and Callen. The obituary also names sisters-in-law Carol Nacke (Earl) and Penny Seidel, notes he was predeceased by siblings Kenneth, Loren, Eugene and Dorothy Buhl, and adds that he is survived by "many nieces and nephews" and his pet Buddy.
Funeral arrangements are with Glende-Nilson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Battle Lake. Visitation is Friday, March 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home listed at 102 Lincoln Ave., Battle Lake. The obituary pages include standard condolence options including leaving memories on the funeral home site and sending flowers or planting trees as ways to show support.
A separate, conflicting obituary posted elsewhere for a "Paul William Alfred Seidel" lists different birth and death dates and appears to be a different individual; the family notice handled by Glende-Nilson identifies Paul J. Seidel, born September 4, 1941, as the Clitherall resident who died February 26, 2026. Community members who knew Seidel through the council, NAPA Auto Parts, Mark Sand and Gravel, or Hull’s Landing may attend the March 6 services or leave condolences through the funeral home website.
