Perry County Public Library Offers Bookmobile Outreach From Tell City, Cannelton Branches
Perry County Public Library’s bookmobile serves Tell City and Cannelton, bringing over 3,100 books and media to neighborhoods to improve access to information and services.

Perry County Public Library is expanding its outreach with a state of the art bookmobile that travels throughout the county on a rotating schedule to reach residents who face transportation or connectivity barriers. The service supplements two brick-and-mortar branches in Tell City and Cannelton and extends the library’s mission that “Perry County Public Library provides all residents of Perry County with access to materials, resources, and services for education, information, and recreation through our three branch locations and outreach services.”
The Tell City branch is located at 2328 Tell Street, Tell City, IN 47586 and can be reached at 812-547-2661. Tell City hours are Monday through Wednesday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Thursday and Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and Sunday closed. The Cannelton branch is at 210 S. 8th Street, Cannelton, IN 47520 and can be reached at 812-547-6028. Cannelton hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday closed.
The bookmobile lists its main office at 2328 Tell Street in Tell City and is described on library pages as stocked with “over 3,100 books, DVDs, audiobooks, and magazines.” Evergreen records show bookmobile hours as Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 2:30 pm, with Friday through Sunday closed, while the site also offers a “View Bookmobile Schedule,” a Bookmobile Brochure, and a Bookmobile Service Request form for communities and organizations that want stops added. To be added to the route, the site lists Bookmobile Librarian Terry Delph at 606-436-2475 ext. 212 or tdelph@perrylib.org, or by filling out the online Bookmobile request form. Outreach programming is handled through an Outreach Librarian; the site lists Candace Calhoun at (606) 436-2475 ext. 211 and Adult Services Librarian Amy Eversole for test proctoring at (606) 436-2475 ext. 208.
Beyond lending, the system offers printing, faxing, and copying services, as well as 20 public computers. “With our circulation program, Evergreen Indiana, you can manage your materials online,” the library notes, and patrons in Perry County can request items shipped from the consortium’s statewide holdings at no charge. Those services matter for health and equity: the bookmobile and in-branch computers help residents who lack reliable transport or home internet connect to health information, telehealth, job applications, and benefits enrollment.
Holiday closures for 2026 follow the library’s published schedule, including New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, a Staff Training Day on October 12, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving in late November, Christmas in late December, and New Year’s Eve. The Cannelton Library is closed on the first Tuesday of November 2026, November 3, as a polling location.
For now, branch phones are listed with 812 area codes while several outreach and bookmobile contacts appear with 606 area codes on library pages; callers should use the Tell City number at 812-547-2661 or the Cannelton number at 812-547-6028 for branch-specific inquiries, and consult the bookmobile schedule or the Bookmobile Service Request for stop times. The bookmobile is a tangible step toward narrowing rural information and digital divides in Perry County; residents who need home or group outreach, proctored testing support, or meeting space can contact the library to arrange services.
