Police Identify 41-Year-Old Kasey Hui-Ahsam Killed in Honoka‘a ATV Crash
Police identified 41-year-old Kasey Hui-Ahsam of Honoka‘a as the victim of an ATV crash on Mud Lane; authorities say an autopsy is pending and the case is under investigation.
Kasey Hui-Ahsam, 41, of Honoka‘a died after an all-terrain vehicle overturned late Saturday on Mud Lane, Hawaiʻi Island police said. The Honda four-wheel ATV was towing a trailer and was traveling north when it lost control, overturned and ejected the sole occupant, who became pinned beneath the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived to find Hui-Ahsam unresponsive. Fire and medical personnel determined he was beyond life-saving measures, and he was pronounced deceased at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8. The crash was reported at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, about a half mile west of Honoka‘a–Waipi‘o Road.
The East Hawai‘i Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the single-vehicle collision and has ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. At this time, speed, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision, police said.
Investigators are seeking information from anyone who may have observed the ATV, the trailer, or the vehicle’s movements before the crash.
