Prattville Council Approves Miller Park Trail Upgrade Funded by Parks Budget
District 1 Councilor Wade Newman backed the Prattville City Council's March 4 approval to upgrade the Miller Park walking trail, funded from the city parks budget and naming Construction Services LLC as contractor.

District 1 Councilor Wade Newman supported the Prattville City Council's approval of an asphalt upgrade to the Miller Park walking trail after visiting the park, and the council on March 4, 2026, named Construction Services LLC as the contractor with funding to come from the Prattville city parks budget. The council's action formally adds the Miller Park project to the city's parks spending plan, though the resolution supplied to reporters did not attach a dollar figure.
The council resolution identifies Construction Services LLC as the contractor for the Miller Park walking-trail upgrade; the document provided to news outlets includes the company name but no contract amount, no start date and no projected completion date. The absence of a reported contract dollar value or timetable means specific impacts on park users and closure plans for Miller Park are not yet available from city records.
Local parks leadership framed the Miller Park move as part of a larger push by the City Council to invest in public recreation. "Quality of life issues are high on the list for the Prattville City Council," Strichik, chairman of the Prattville Parks and Recreation Committee, told local reporters while outlining ongoing improvements. Prattville Parks & Recreation currently employs 30 full-time staff and about 100 seasonal workers during peak periods, a staffing level the board chairman cited when describing the capacity to manage multiple projects.
The Miller Park approval comes as visible construction work is already underway at Spillway Park in historic downtown Prattville, where renovations have begun and the project is slated for completion in November of this year. Planned features at Spillway Park include an outdoor venue area for concerts and dinners, dedicated parking, public restrooms, a walking trail to connect to the 4th Street entrance, an observation deck with seating, a kids play area and food truck hookups intended to eliminate the need for portable generators.

Citywide asphalt work is expanding beyond parks. The City Council separately approved a streets resurfacing program that will cover all or portions of 19 streets, awarding Alexander Paving a $1.33 million contract. That streets project is scheduled to begin June 23, run for 75 calendar days weather permitting, remove 69,000 square yards of asphalt by grinding, and place 8,250 tons of paving; the majority of that streets work will be paid from state fuel tax revenue-sharing.
With Construction Services LLC named but financial and scheduling details absent from the Miller Park resolution, Prattville's parks leadership and council members will determine when physical work begins and how the trail upgrade will affect park access. The Miller Park project now joins the Spillway Park renovation and the $1.33 million streets resurfacing as the most prominent infrastructure actions shaping Prattville's public spaces this year.
