RetroAchievements releases Multiset from beta for 100+ games, requires RetroArch 1.22.1+

RetroAchievements has moved Multiset out of beta and turned the long-requested feature on for more than 100 games, changing how achievement sets are handled across the site. Multiset lets players earn subset achievements without needing a patched ROM, so optional or bonus sets can run alongside a game's main achievement set without altering completion% or unfinished stats.

This matters because it removes a frequent barrier for completion hunters and casual collectors alike. Instead of tracking down patched ROMs or juggling separate game entries, users can enable optional subsets that behave like bonus challenges. Subsets are designed as extras and will not count against your main completion percentage, preserving leaderboards and completion tracking while expanding what players can pursue.

The implementation requires emulator-side support, so update your frontend before celebrating. RetroArch 1.22.1 or the latest RALibRetro builds are required because the Multiset feature depends on updated backend-emulator communication. Users who do not want automatic extra sets can opt out via a new settings toggle, and individual subsets can be enabled or disabled using the new Subset Configuration control on each game's page.

The RetroAchievements site team is continuing to enable more titles and subset combinations, so expect the number of supported games to grow. In addition to Multiset, the update introduced refreshed game banners and tighter password rules. Users were logged out after the update to enforce stronger passwords, so plan on signing back in and checking account security settings before jumping into new challenges.

For practical steps: update RetroArch or switch to the latest RALibRetro builds, sign back into your RetroAchievements account after the enforced logout, and visit game pages to examine and toggle subsets via Subset Configuration. If you prefer not to load multiple sets automatically, toggle off Multiset in your account settings. These changes are immediate for titles already enabled at launch and will roll out to more games as the team works through follow-up enabling.

Multiset changes how community-created sets interact with a player's stats and opens the door for layered challenges - think optional hardmode runs, charity event subsets, or legacy bonus achievements that no longer require special ROMs. Expect more titles and subset experimentation in the coming weeks as RetroAchievements expands support and refines the UX.
