Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro Could Join Lineup as New Premium Mid-Tier Option

Samsung is reportedly planning to add a dedicated Galaxy S27 Pro to its 2027 flagship lineup, creating a four-model setup that slots a full-featured "mini Ultra" between the Galaxy S27+ and Galaxy S27 Ultra at a potentially lower price ceiling.

The four-model configuration, first surfaced by South Korean industry sources, would consist of the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra. Samsung's Mobile Experience division is driving the expansion as part of a strategy to grow its premium segment from one flagship anchor to two, positioning the Pro as a specification-driven alternative for power users who stop short of the Ultra's asking price.

On hardware, the S27 Pro would reportedly match the Ultra in several key areas. A 200MP primary camera, the same resolution found in the Galaxy S27 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 8, is expected to carry over. So is Samsung's Privacy Display technology, currently exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which restricts the screen's viewing angle to prevent shoulder-surfing by fogging content for anyone not standing directly in front of the display. Under the hood, early leaks point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset built on a 2nm process, up to 16GB of LPDDR6 RAM, and UFS 5.0 storage reaching up to 1TB.

One notable omission: no S Pen. The stylus stays exclusive to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, though Samsung has been quietly scaling back its commitment to the accessory. The Galaxy S26 Ultra kept the S Pen physically but removed its Bluetooth functionality, eliminating the wireless remote capability that had made it practical for triggering camera shutters and controlling presentations.

The four-model strategy mirrors Apple's long-running iPhone architecture, which spans the standard iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max. Samsung's MX division appears to be making a structural move at the top of its Galaxy S range to close that competitive gap directly.

Samsung has attempted four simultaneous flagship models before. The Galaxy S25 series included the Galaxy S25 Edge, a fourth device built around an ultra-slim chassis as its core pitch. That experiment failed commercially: the Galaxy S25 Edge sold far fewer units than Samsung had anticipated, forcing significant production cuts, and the company ultimately reverted to a three-model setup for the Galaxy S26 lineup. The S27 Pro is built on a fundamentally different rationale, trading the Edge's form-factor novelty for a specification-first appeal grounded in camera hardware, display technology, and processing power.

To contain pre-announcement leaks, Samsung has reportedly imposed internal "secure chat" protocols on Galaxy S27 communications. The series is expected to debut at a Samsung Unpacked event in January or February 2027, following the cadence of the Galaxy S26, which was revealed on February 25, 2026, with retail availability expected within one to two weeks of the announcement.
