Sanford police seek tips after man allegedly harassed children at Kirby Park
Sanford police say home security footage could identify a man who approached two children at Mike Kirby Park and “made vulgar comments to the children,” investigators say.

Security footage and neighborhood home cameras are central to a Sanford Police Department appeal after investigators say a man approached two children at Mike Kirby Park, 2199 Oregon Ave., around 11:30 a.m. on March 1, 2026, and “made vulgar comments to the children,” police said. Investigators added the individual “possibly partially exposed his genitalia” during the encounter.
According to the Sanford Police Department, the suspect is a white male with a small build and black, medium-length hair. Police described his clothing as a tan sweater and maroon pajama-style pants at the time of the incident. No ages or other identifying details about the two children have been released.
Sanford investigators are asking for help from nearby residents, specifically those in The Retreat at Twin Lakes, to check home surveillance systems. “Investigators are specifically asking residents in the area of The Retreat at Twin Lakes to review their home surveillance systems,” police wrote, noting that recorded neighborhood footage “could reveal more information regarding the man’s identity or his movements during the time of the incident.”
A social media post on Instagram said the person was “caught on security footage acting suspiciously near a private residence,” a detail that aligns with the police request for residential camera reviews. A short video posted to YouTube carried the headline “Police seeking public's help in search for man accused of exposing himself at Sanford park,” though Sanford police statements used the more cautious phrasing about possible partial exposure.
Available reports do not indicate an arrest or charges have been filed. Police communications and republished news items instruct anyone with information to contact the Sanford Police Department, but the initial public excerpts did not include a specific tip line phone number or email address.
City and neighborhood officials have not released additional statements in the accounts reviewed, and it is not clear whether the department has distributed still images or video to the public. Sanford investigators have emphasized that footage from private residences near Mike Kirby Park may help identify the man and trace his movements before or after the March 1 encounter.
Sanford Police Department investigators say they are continuing to seek surveillance footage and tips as they pursue leads in the case at Mike Kirby Park. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sanford Police Department.
