Seashore Trolley Museum Hosts Volunteer Open Houses March 19 and 21
Seashore Trolley Museum is recruiting volunteers with open houses at 195 Log Cabin Rd., Kennebunkport on March 19 (11AM-2PM) and March 21 (2PM-4PM); machinists and conductor trainees are in demand.

The world’s first and largest electric railway museum is looking for new volunteers to join its ranks," the Seashore Trolley Museum wrote as it announced two New Volunteer Open Houses at 195 Log Cabin Road in Kennebunkport. The museum will host sessions on Thursday, March 19 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Saturday, March 21 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to recruit seasonal and year-round volunteers.
At the March 19 open house museum volunteers and staff will emphasize spring priorities. "At the Open House held on Thursday, March 19 from 11AM-2PM, Museum volunteers and staff would love to meet you to share more information about the following volunteer opportunities they are most in need of support this spring:" the announcement states, highlighting machinists and welders needed to help with trolley restoration projects, Model Railroad Building docents, and library/archives projects to make the collection more accessible.
Machinists and welders are singled out as roles the museum "is most in need of support this spring" and the announcement sets an expected monthly commitment of 2-10 hours a month for those restoration volunteers. Model Railroad Building docents and staff for library/archives projects are listed alongside restoration work as priorities for the March 19 session, reflecting hands-on needs for the museum ahead of the 2026 season.
Prospective operators should note the museum's conductor pathway. The museum is "recruiting new conductors to begin observing trained crew on either Tuesdays or Saturdays in May and June." New conductor volunteers will be "paired with an experienced, knowledgeable instructor who will show you the ins and outs of the museum’s history and the museum’s robust transit collection, how to safely board guests on the trolleys, and how the railroad works and is operated." "Upon successful completion of the observation period and if interested, new volunteers will then learn to operate the trolleys with a seasoned operator."

The March 21 session is positioned as a broader recruitment day: "On Saturday, March 21, all museum departments will be present to recruit all volunteer roles that support the museum seasonally and year-round, including:" the announcement reads. The line ends with "including:" in the museum notice, indicating all departments will attend to outline seasonal and year-round roles for volunteers.
The museum invites anyone interested in transit preservation, restoration, model-rail operations, or archives work to attend at 195 Log Cabin Rd., Kennebunkport, ME 04046.
