Sims team confirms Feb. 12 hotfix for missing railings, other post-patch issues
The Sims Direct Team says a retroactive fix for missing railings is in final testing and should ship in a small update on Feb. 12 if checks pass.

The Sims Direct Team has told players in the official Sims Discord that it is “wrapping up final testing on a retroactive fix for the missing railing issue,” and that “if everything checks out, it should ship in a small update on Feb 12,” the developer said. The team added it will “confirm once it’s locked in.”
The missing stair railings hit existing save games after the latest February 2026 patch, and builders reported having to repair lots across their worlds instead of celebrating the new Stair Tools release. Sims Community reporter Jovan summarized the disruption, writing that what should have been a celebration of new building tools turned into players fixing lots by hand.
Other bugs have been widespread in community reports but are not explicitly covered by the Discord message. Players have reported photos and paintings rendering as black when placed from the gallery or library, family tree displays showing overlaps and incorrect connections, and lecture autonomy failing on custom venues. A YouTube commentator quoted the Sims Direct Team’s Twitter message acknowledging base game update problems and advised, “So, I don't know at this point, guys. I think at this point you have to update at your own risk.” The commentator also described a confusing rollout and speculated that only the railings fix will be included in the Feb. 12 small update.
Community reaction has been sharp. User Lex posted a strongly worded complaint that reads, in part, “Get your heads out of your ass, and properly fix your game, instead of releasing new expansions. Better yet, don’t patch a game BEFORE an expansion comes out, because it breaks games and servers. Fix your shit, and do it right instead of messing up everyone’s game.” That post captures frustration voiced across forums and social channels.

Practical steps for players now: back up save folders before any launcher update, avoid urgent forced updates until the Feb. 12 small update is confirmed, and check game stability on test saves if you run custom content or complex builds. Expect the retroactive railings fix to correct affected older lots if final testing passes, but do not assume the Feb. 12 update will address the other community-reported issues unless the Sims Direct Team publishes explicit patch notes.
The next concrete milestone is the developer’s confirmation that the update is locked in. If the final tests pass and the patch ships on Feb. 12, most builders should see missing railings restored in their saves; if not, continued community bug reporting and follow-up fixes will be necessary.
