SUNY Suffolk Launches The Other Way to Listen Honoring Women's History Month
SUNY Suffolk will present The Other Way to Listen at the Sagtikos Art Gallery, Michael J. Grant Campus, March 11–April 8, 2026, with an opening reception March 11, 12:30–2:00 p.m.

Suffolk County Community College (SUNY Suffolk) will present The Other Way to Listen, a group exhibition curated by Grace Lerner, at the Sagtikos Art Gallery on the Michael J. Grant Campus, running March 11 through April 8, 2026. The college’s announcement, marked "For Immediate Release" on Feb. 25, 2026, frames the exhibition as presented “In honor of Women’s History Month.”
The college’s release states, “The exhibition highlights female artists whose work cultivates an emotional connection to the earth while exploring themes of feminine spirituality, cosmic motherhood, and ancient traditions.” That curatorial description appears on the SUNY Suffolk press page alongside the exhibition listing and was included in the official announcement from the college.
“The Other Way to Listen features work by Sophia Belkin, Nkechi Ebubedike, Haley Josephs, Wen Liu, Ana Mendieta, Sahana Ramakrishnan, and Terumi Saito,” the press release says. Among the works featured, the SUNY Suffolk exhibition page lists Mirror Lake (2025) by Sophia Belkin; the image caption identifies the work as a digitally printed textile with embroidery, dye, and screenprint on cotton measuring 28 x 26 inches.
Opening reception details published by the college specify Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. The release notes that “Curator Grace Lerner will offer remarks about the exhibition.” The college also states that “Light refreshments will be served, and all are welcome” at the reception in Room 150 of the Sagtikos Arts and Science Building.
The Sagtikos Art Gallery is located in Room 150 on the Michael J. Grant Campus; the press release and exhibition page carry the SUNY Suffolk logo and institutional copy lines, including “With the lowest college tuition on Long Island, SUNY Suffolk will show you why an exceptional education doesn't have to be expensive.” The announcement was issued as a college press release dated Feb. 25, 2026.
The college’s materials do not list gallery hours, admission pricing, press contact information, or a complete inventory of works by each listed artist. The release also does not specify whether the work by Ana Mendieta is an original, reproduction, or archival material, nor does it provide lender or credit information for any works. Reporters and visitors seeking those logistical details or image permissions are not given contact points in the release and should request them directly from Suffolk County Community College (SUNY Suffolk) before attending or publishing images.
The Other Way to Listen will open to the public at the Sagtikos Art Gallery on March 11 and remain on view through April 8, 2026, presenting campus visitors and the wider Suffolk County community with a group show centered on earth-centered practices and intergenerational themes of feminine spirituality.
