Tennessee Fugitive Arrested in Cass County Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Three Years
Caleb M. Patterson, 21, of Lewisburg, Tenn., pleaded guilty in Cass County Court to possessing 5-15 grams of methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years in prison; the case raises cross-jurisdictional public-safety questions.

Caleb M. Patterson, 21, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, pleaded guilty Monday in Cass County Court to a Class 2 felony count of possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Judge Timothy J. Wessel also ordered one year of mandatory supervised release, assessed a $200 fine, and gave Patterson credit for 34 days already served in the Schuyler County Jail.
Prosecutors dismissed all remaining Illinois charges against Patterson under the plea agreement. The dismissed counts included possession of a firearm by a felon, intent to deliver methamphetamine, unlawful use of a weapon, obstruction of justice, and obstructing identification. The possession charge to which Patterson pleaded specified a quantity between 5 and 15 grams.
Patterson was arrested December 30, 2025, near Beardstown by Cass County Sheriff’s deputies. At the time of arrest he was wanted on a fugitive-from-justice warrant out of Marshall County, Tennessee, tied to an armed robbery reported the night before at a fireworks stand in a Walmart parking lot in Lewisburg. Illinois prosecutors have filed extradition paperwork related to the Tennessee case, but no further information has been released regarding Patterson’s status or potential proceedings in Tennessee.
The case underscores the operational reality for local residents in Morgan County and the surrounding region: criminal activity and arrest proceedings often cross county and state lines, and plea agreements in one jurisdiction can affect how other jurisdictions pursue charges. Residents who follow local court outcomes should expect that custody and transfer decisions, extradition processing, and record releases will determine whether Tennessee authorities pursue separate proceedings on the Marshall County warrant.
The court feed that carried the Patterson item also included a separate Cass County matter. Arturo Santamaria, 27, of Ashland, Illinois, faces four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a female minor, alleged to have occurred on four occasions between July 19, 2024, and August of 2024. Santamaria was arrested January 27 and is being held at the Menard County Jail. At a first appearance on January 29 a judge ordered him detained as a potential public-safety risk, ordered a mental health evaluation, and assigned a public defender; he is scheduled to return to Cass County court February 19.
For Morgan County readers, the Patterson sentence offers a reminder that local public safety relies on coordination among county sheriffs, state prosecutors, and courts. Watch for docket entries and official statements from Cass County and Marshall County authorities to learn whether Illinois sentencing changes lead to extradition or additional proceedings in Tennessee.
