Trinidad Ambulance District Approves Community Paramedicine Expansion, Boosts Behavioral Health Response
The Trinidad Ambulance District approved a Jan. 28 plan to expand community paramedicine and beef up behavioral-health response as grant deadlines loom.

The Trinidad Ambulance District board approved a strategy at its Jan. 28 board meeting to expand community paramedicine services and increase behavioral-health response capabilities, citing mounting operational pressures and a narrowing window for grant funding. Board members voted to move the plan forward to position the district for funding opportunities tied to those program areas.
District leaders framed the action as a response to operational pressures within TAD’s service area around the city of Trinidad and elsewhere in Las Animas County. The Jan. 28 approval prioritizes building out community paramedicine capacity and strengthening behavioral-health response so the district can apply for external grants before the available funding window closes.

The approved strategy explicitly links the community paramedicine expansion with enhanced behavioral-health response capabilities, committing TAD to allocate planning resources to those two lines of effort. By approving the plan at the Jan. 28 meeting, the board authorized staff to prepare the technical and budgetary materials needed to pursue grant applications tied to community paramedicine and behavioral-health initiatives.
For residents of Trinidad and the surrounding parts of Las Animas County, the board’s Jan. 28 decision signals a shift in district priorities toward nontraditional emergency services and behavioral-health intervention. With the clock described by trustees as tightening on relevant grant programs, the board moved on Jan. 28 to create the administrative footing the district will need to seek outside funds and expand those services.
This report is filed for Las Animas County as of Feb. 19, 2026, following the Jan. 28 board approval by the Trinidad Ambulance District.
