Troop K State Police Stop Vehicle on I-87 in Newburgh Feb. 4
Troop K State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in Newburgh; K-9 Vinn alerted and troopers recovered more than two pounds of cocaine, arresting a 38-year-old Whitehall woman.

Troopers from New York State Police Troop K stopped a vehicle on Interstate 87 in the Town of Newburgh after observing a traffic violation and recovered a large quantity of narcotics, law enforcement reported. The stop and subsequent search resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old woman from Whitehall.
State Police say the stop occurred at about 11:50 a.m. on Feb. 4. A State Police K-9, Vinn, conducted an exterior scan of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. Troopers then searched the vehicle and recovered more than two pounds of cocaine concealed inside. A further search of the driver, identified as Katrina A. Haeger, 38, of Whitehall, produced approximately two grams of fentanyl and 4.4 grams of heroin.
Haeger has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. She was arraigned in the Village of Goshen Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail, where she remains in custody pending further proceedings.
The seizure in Newburgh underscores the role of Troop K and Thruway patrols in intercepting drugs on regional interstate routes. While this incident involved a vehicle stopped for traffic violations, officials have not released specifics on the traffic offense, the precise concealment location inside the vehicle, or whether forensic laboratory testing has confirmed the field identifications and reported weights. No statements from State Police spokespeople, prosecutors, defense counsel, or Haeger were made available at the time of the arrest.
Regional context shows other recent interstate drug stops with significant recoveries. In a separate case on Feb. 3, the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office announced troopers found a kilogram of cocaine after a traffic stop on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Donegal Township; the driver there was jailed on drug-related charges and traffic counts. A social-media post also reported a large semitruck seizure of more than 550 pounds of cocaine on Interstate 40 in Holbrook, Arizona, although that item lacks independent confirmation.
For Orange County residents, the Newburgh stop highlights how routine traffic enforcement and K-9 teams can affect Thruway travel and local public safety. Court filings, lab confirmations, and official statements from New York State Police Troop K and the Orange County District Attorney will provide further detail on quantities, charges, and next court dates. Reporters will seek those records and will update coverage as official information becomes available.
