"On Feb. 26, at around 6 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive," police said. "When officers arrived, they saw one male who had multiple gunshot wounds, and the victim was transported to the trauma center in Memphis for further treatment." Police said the victim is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.
According to police, three people were taken into custody at the scene. Two suspects identified by authorities are Braylin Boyd, 19, and Kelby Boyd, 19; both "were charged in connection with the shooting," police said. The police department did not report what the suspects were charged with, and both Braylin Boyd and Kelby Boyd have bonds set at $500,000 each, police said.
The identity and age of the hospitalized victim have not been released by police, and the specific Memphis trauma center that received the patient was not named in the initial report. Police did not provide the identity or status of the third person taken into custody, nor did the department disclose whether weapons were recovered or the motive behind the shooting.
Helena‑West Helena police have limited the public details to the scene response, the victim’s transport to a Memphis trauma center, and the custody status of three individuals with two formal charges announced against the named suspects. Court filings or booking records that list formal criminal counts for Braylin Boyd and Kelby Boyd were not included in the department’s initial statements, and police did not release further information about the investigation in the first update.
The shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and the high bonds set for the two 19-year-old suspects have raised immediate questions about the circumstances that led to the incident and the condition of the victim in Memphis. Police have not provided additional updates on charges, the unnamed third person taken into custody, or next court dates as of the department’s initial release.
