Vehicle Linked to Eugene Pursuit Stopped in Veneta; Springfield Man Arrested
Lane County deputies arrested 41-year-old David Johnathan Guggenmos of Springfield after spike strips slowed a vehicle tied to a Eugene chase in the 25100 block of E. Broadway Avenue in Veneta.

Lane County deputies arrested 41-year-old David Johnathan Guggenmos of Springfield after a vehicle linked to a recent Eugene police chase was slowed by spike strips and stopped in Veneta. Residents near the 25100 block of E. Broadway Avenue saw a law-enforcement response around 9:30 a.m., when deputies investigated a trespassing report that led to the arrest.
“Around 9:30 a.m. on March 1, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle trespassing in the 25100 block of E. Broadway Avenue in Veneta,” KVAL reported, noting the vehicle description matched one that had recently fled from Eugene Police officers. Deputies say the vehicle left the scene before they arrived and was later located in a nearby church parking lot.
KVAL and NBC16 reported deputies staged in the area after finding the vehicle in the church lot, and an Oregon State police trooper “staged a spike strip nearby.” When the vehicle attempted to flee again, KEZI quoted the Lane County Sheriff’s Office: “When the vehicle attempted to flee again, spike strips were successfully used to slow it down.”
After the spike strips ended the vehicle’s movement, officers took the suspected driver into custody. KEZI reported, “Guggenmos was eventually arrested and lodged at Lane County Jail.” Jail records reviewed by KEZI show Guggenmos remained in custody as of March 4. Local reporting also states he had been wanted on a felony warrant prior to this arrest.
Charging information published so far lists counts that “include eluding by vehicle and resisting arrest,” according to KEZI, though the phrase “including” indicates additional charges may exist that have not been publicly detailed. KVAL and NBC16 identify the suspect as 41 and of Springfield; KEZI and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office supplied the arrest chronology and custody confirmation.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office thanked Oregon State Police for their assistance in the incident, KEZI reported, reflecting the multi-agency response that began with Eugene officers' earlier pursuit and concluded with local deputies and an Oregon State police trooper deploying spike strips in Veneta. Sources did not provide the church’s name, a vehicle make or plate number, or a full booking sheet.
Jail records and news outlets show Guggenmos was in custody as of March 4; court dates, bond information and a complete list of charges were not released in the reports. Lane County deputies and state police were credited for ending the incident without reports of injuries in the available accounts, and officials indicated they will update records as booking and charging documents are processed.
