Wake County Deputy Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car During Garner Arrest
A Wake County deputy was hospitalized after a suspect allegedly backed a car into him during an attempted arrest at the Sheetz on Jones Sausage Road around 2:20 p.m.

A Wake County sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening after a suspect allegedly backed a car into him during an attempted arrest at the Sheetz on the 4000 block of Jones Sausage Road near Garner around 2:20 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office described the sequence in a statement: "a deputy who was stopped at the Sheetz tried to assist with a person who was trespassing. [...] When the deputy tried to arrest him, the man resisted. During the struggle, the deputy deployed pepper spray. The suspect then got into a car and backed it into the deputy," Officials said the deputy was transported to a hospital; the sheriff’s office characterized the deputy's injuries as non-life-threatening.
A Sheetz employee at the scene said the incident "may have started as an altercation inside the store." A driver of a white pickup that remained at the scene said "the suspect also hit his vehicle." Witness accounts placed the location near Integrity Court and just off I-40 south in Raleigh, consistent with the 4000 block of Jones Sausage Road in Garner where deputies responded.
Law enforcement took the suspect into custody and authorities reported the suspect "was taken into custody and taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries." Officers arranged for the suspect's vehicle to be towed from the scene; Sheriff’s Office personnel confirmed the tow and said evidence collection was underway.

As of March 7, 2026, the sheriff’s office had not released the deputy’s name, rank, badge number, or the suspect’s identity, and no formal charges or booking details had been publicized. The local radio and hospital names where the deputy and suspect were treated were not disclosed in initial briefings.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office said, "The incident remains under investigation." Deputies, towing records and Sheetz surveillance could clarify the timeline and vehicle movement; county officials have not yet indicated whether body-worn camera footage or criminal charges will be released.
