Walmart Launches Better Care Services Platform Impacting Pharmacies Nationwide
Walmart unveiled Better Care Services on Jan. 8, 2026, a new digital destination designed to connect customers to urgent care, behavioral health and telehealth services while linking prescriptions and over-the-counter orders to Walmart pickup and delivery. The rollout includes price rollbacks on more than 1,000 wellness items and a Nutrition Hub powered by Everyday Health Signals AI, moves that will change pharmacy workflows, merchandising tasks and staffing needs across nearly 4,600 stores.

Walmart introduced Better Care Services as a centralized health and wellness portal intended to make care and products more accessible for customers. The platform connects shoppers with third-party urgent care and behavioral health providers, integrates LillyDirect offerings, and pairs telehealth consultations with Walmart pickup and delivery for prescriptions and over-the-counter items. The company also announced rollbacks on more than 1,000 wellness-focused items and promoted Nutrition Hub features that use Walmart’s Everyday Health Signals AI to personalize food and recipe recommendations.
Employee-facing guidance accompanying the rollout highlighted expanded wellness programming and merchandising initiatives in health categories. Walmart is publicizing a nationwide Wellness Event at pharmacies scheduled for Jan. 24, and said that merchandise and pharmacy workflows tied to these programs could affect staffing, merchandising tasks, trainings, and temporary event staffing in nearly 4,600 pharmacies.
For pharmacy teams and store associates, those changes are likely to alter day-to-day operations. Pairing telehealth consultations with in-store pickup and delivery will require closer coordination between pharmacy staff and telehealth providers, faster processing of electronic prescriptions, and potential adjustments to fulfillment windows. The price rollbacks and the upcoming Wellness Event are likely to increase customer traffic to health aisles and pharmacy counters, creating higher demand for prescription processing and product handling during promotional periods.

Merchandising initiatives and Nutrition Hub recommendations may create new in-store display plans and restocking cycles. Managers can expect additional training on new workflows, technology integrations, and privacy procedures related to telehealth and personalized recommendations. Temporary staffing or schedule changes are probable around the Jan. 24 event as stores accommodate promotional activity and service demand.
The initiative positions Walmart to further integrate digital health offerings with physical store assets, but it also places operational pressure on frontline teams who will implement the changes. Store leaders and pharmacy supervisors will play a central role in translating corporate programming into staffing plans, training schedules, and in-store processes. As Walmart moves from announcement to execution, pharmacy employees and store associates should look for follow-up communications outlining specific scheduling, training and workflow details tied to Better Care Services and the January Wellness Event.
