Disney is turning one of its most familiar thrills into a deeper exercise in intellectual-property recycling, and Weird Al Yankovic is the latest name pulled into the mix. The parody music veteran said he will appear on screens for guests waiting in line when Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens May 26, 2026, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. The reveal added a fan-facing flourish to a broader reset that Disney has framed as a full retheme, not a cosmetic touch-up.

That distinction matters. The coaster originally opened in 1999 with Aerosmith at the center of the story, and Disney has now closed that chapter in favor of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Guests will enter through G-Force Records, where the band is said to be rehearsing “Can You Picture That?” in the queue before boarding a vehicle Disney calls a L.I.M.O., short for Lengthy Immediate Motion Object. Disney also said the attraction will feature a first-ever Scooter audio-animatronic in a Disney park ride, a signal that the company is not merely swapping logos but rebuilding the ride’s identity around a different era of pop culture.

The new version is designed to stretch beyond the ride itself. Disney said celebrity cameos will run through the queue and the merchandise shop, with Weird Al joined by Awkwafina, Danny Trejo, Darren Criss, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Travis Barker, Yvette Nicole Brown and Wayne Brady. That lineup turns the pre-show into part of the draw, extending the experience into the wait and turning the queue into entertainment rather than dead time. For Disney, that is a practical way to make a longstanding attraction feel fresh without the cost or risk of building from scratch.

The soundtrack underscores the same strategy. Disney revealed a five-song set list built around Electric Mayhem versions or collaborations tied to “Song 2,” “Born To Be Wild” featuring Camilla the Chicken, “Love Rollercoaster” featuring Jennifer Hudson and Questlove, “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)” featuring Def Leppard, and “Walking on Sunshine” featuring Kelly Clarkson. The result is a ride that keeps the high-speed coaster experience intact while reworking the surrounding story for multigenerational nostalgia, letting Disney tap parents who remember the original while giving younger visitors a fresher franchise hook.

Weird Al fits the concept neatly. His career has always lived at the intersection of parody, novelty and mainstream appeal, which makes him a useful symbol for Disney’s larger strategy. By threading legacy attractions through newer character franchises and recognizable celebrity voices, Walt Disney World is using nostalgia as an operating model, not just a mood. The Muppets makeover shows how Disney keeps a marquee ride relevant by turning the queue, the soundtrack and the cameos into part of the value proposition.
