WSCUC Reaffirms Fresno State Accreditation for 10 Years
WSCUC reaffirmed Fresno State’s accreditation for the maximum 10 years on Feb. 13, 2026, a decision Fresno State announced in a March 3 press release and tied to its "Flagship of the Central Valley" theme.

The WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) reaffirmed California State University, Fresno’s accreditation for a full 10 years on Feb. 13, 2026, the longest reaffirmation period possible and one reserved for institutions that demonstrate the highest levels of quality, effectiveness and integrity. Fresno State published a press release titled "Fresno State’s accreditation reaffirmed for 10 years" on Mar. 3, 2026 at 4:43 PM and emphasized that accreditation certifies the validity of Fresno State degrees and is required for students to be eligible for federal financial aid.
Fresno State participated in WSCUC’s Thematic Pathway for Reaccreditation, an option the university says is available only to high-performing institutions that did well in their previous reaccreditation. The campus submitted its self-study on July 30, 2025, hosted a WSCUC campus visit Oct. 8–10, 2025, and completed a self-study carried out by 77 members of the campus community. Fresno State’s self-study focused on the theme "Flagship of the Central Valley" and six working groups analyzed social mobility; high-impact practices; alumni career satisfaction; economic impact; impact of Fresno State’s research and service; and graduates in the regional workforce.
Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval framed the process as a campus-wide reflection. "This introspective process of accreditation has allowed us to reflect on our shared mission and collective efforts, through which we continually strive to become better in our service to our region," Jiménez-Sandoval said in the university’s materials. He added that the Commission’s commendations "speak directly to Fresno State’s identity as the ‘Flagship of the Central Valley’ and as an institution defined not by exclusivity, but by access, impact and service to our region," Jiménez-Sandoval said. On the university’s LinkedIn post Jiménez-Sandoval also wrote, "This phenomenal outcome belongs to every member of our campus community — faculty, staff and students — who contributed to the self-study, hosted the visit and live and breathe our values every day through their hard work of teaching, research, service and support of students."
Fresno State communications and the Academics FresnoState pages note that "The Commission specifically commended Fresno State for: [...]" but the excerpts available to the university point readers to the Commission’s formal action letter for the full list of commendations. Fresno State’s press materials instruct readers to visit the university’s accreditation website and to read the Commission’s formal action letter for detailed Commission language and the specific commendations.

Local reaction to the announcement appeared on the California State University, Fresno LinkedIn page, which the post metadata shows has 135,242 followers. Commenters included Gus Leonard, Ed.D., who wrote "I'm proud to be a Bulldog! Congrats to everyone on the Fresno team for showing what great work is happening in the valley! It's us students who benefit :)", Mort Peyvandi who posted a graphic with "#centralvalleystrong 🐶 💪", Nupur Hajela, PT,DPT, PhD who posted "This is great news California State University, Fresno", and alumna Anabela Bettencourt, MBA who wrote "Great job Fresno State! Proud Alumni". Academics FresnoState also illustrated campus impact with image captions showing "student nurses servicing the community with COVID vaccines", "students doing field research", and "Alternative Spring Break: students cleaning up nearby parks for the community."
The decision caps a reaccreditation timeline that saw Fresno State selected for the Thematic Pathway in 2025, submit its self-study July 30, 2025, host WSCUC visitors Oct. 8–10, 2025, and receive the Commission’s action Feb. 13, 2026, with the university posting its formal announcement Mar. 3, 2026. University officials stress that the reaffirmation preserves degree validity and students’ eligibility for federal financial aid and ties the 10-year status to Fresno State’s role as the "Flagship of the Central Valley." For the Commission’s full findings and the specific commendations, Fresno State’s materials direct readers to the Commission’s formal action letter and the university’s accreditation website.
