Yuma Fire Department Responds to Econo Lodge Hotel Fire on Arizona Avenue
Yuma Fire Department crews quickly extinguished a second-floor room fire at the Econo Lodge, 1640 S. Arizona Avenue, around 8:00 a.m.; no injuries were reported.

Yuma Fire Department crews extinguished a room-and-contents fire in a second-floor guest room at the Econo Lodge, 1640 S. Arizona Avenue, around 8:00 a.m., keeping damage confined to the originating room and reporting no injuries. Hotel management relocated guests to other available rooms within the facility while crews worked at the scene.
"On Saturday, February 28, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Yuma Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to the Econo Lodge, located at 1640 S. Arizona Avenue, for a reported fire in a second-story room," the department said in its release. Upon arrival, crews "observed smoke coming from a room on the second floor. Firefighters quickly located a room-and-contents fire and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack."
YFD reported that "the fire was rapidly extinguished, successfully limiting damage to the room of origin. Smoke damage was reported in adjoining units." The department's account notes that hotel staff were able to move guests into other rooms inside the same property rather than directing them to an offsite shelter.
Social media posted from the scene corroborated emergency presence at the intersection commonly referenced by neighbors. An on-scene Instagram caption read, "Police and fire are on scene at the Econo Lodge at 16th Street and Arizona Avenue. They're responding to a fire in one of the guest rooms."

"YFD crews will remain on scene conducting a fire watch through the evening as a precaution," the department said, adding that "the cause of the fire remains under investigation." The fire department also praised its personnel: "Great work by responding crews. Their quick, coordinated actions kept the fire contained and prevented it from spreading to other rooms."
For official follow-up, the City of Yuma Fire Department listed Francisco Leon, Public Information Officer, as the contact. The release provided two phone numbers: 928-373-4853 and 928-446-6211, and directed the public to YFD social channels: twitter at twitter.com/YumaFireDept, Facebook "City of Yuma Fire Department," and Instagram @yfdpubinfo for updates on the investigation and any further operational details.
