Deptford Township launches youth pickleball clinic for ages 7-12

Deptford Township put a Thursday pickleball clinic in front of kids ages 7 to 12 this summer at Deptford Memorial Park, lower level, on 12 Sycamore Lane, with Deptford Mayor & Council, Deptford Recreation and the Deptford Pickleball Club listed as the presenters. The township later said on July 23 that the kids summer clinics had wrapped that day after running for the past month, giving young players a short, structured runway into the sport.

Deptford also folded the program into its spring and summer newsletter and calendar covering April through September 2026, which placed pickleball inside the township’s regular recreation schedule rather than outside it as a one-off offering. That matters for parents looking for a lower-cost, easier-to-reach option than private lessons or club programming, because the township was packaging instruction around a public park site and a recurring weekday format.

The clinic’s setup points to an entry-level program built for beginners. A youth age band of 7 to 12 usually means the focus is on basic hand-eye coordination, court spacing and simple shotmaking, not advanced competition. In a sport where families often have to sort out court time, instruction and equipment separately, a municipal clinic gives them one place to start.
