Gorton Center cornhole classic returns with live concert and family fun

Gorton Center turned its fifth Cornhole Classic into a full summer night in Lake Forest, pairing tournament play with live music, free kid activities and food trucks at 400 East Illinois Road. The July 19 event was built less like a straight bracket and more like a fundraiser-style gathering that could pull in players, families and spectators at the same time.

The schedule was tight and clearly staged for a crowd. Check-in was set for 3:30 p.m., tournament play began at 4:00 p.m., and Gorton’s event listing put the run time at 2 hours 30 minutes. Another ad window ran 4 to 7 p.m., and the party was billed as rain or shine, with the event moving indoors if needed.

By year five, the classic had shifted from simple competition to a hybrid night with a concert built in. The promotion framed it as “BAGS, BEATS & BRAGGING RIGHTS,” and live music from The Luxmen gave the cornhole tournament a stage instead of just a scoreboard. Skills challenges, concessions and local food trucks widened the draw beyond the people actually throwing bags, which is exactly why this format keeps working in a place like Gorton Center.

The event was also pitched with a wide-open invite. A Gorton Center post called for “backyard champions, office rivals, and self-proclaimed cornhole pros,” a line that tells you who this night was built for: serious brackets, casual throwers and everybody in between. That reach matters because the music and family programming gave parents and non-players a reason to stay once the bags started flying.

There was also a clear track record underneath the 2026 edition. Gorton’s 4th Annual Cornhole Classic & Concert ran Saturday, July 13, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with entry set at $60 and event T-shirts folded into the pitch. The fifth annual version kept the same basic formula but scaled it into a broader summer outing, with the concert and the cornhole bracket sharing the same bill instead of competing for attention.
