World cornhole championships draw 600 players to Owensboro, Kentucky

More than 600 elite cornhole players filled the Owensboro Convention Center as the American Cornhole Organization World Championships of Cornhole 21 got underway in western Kentucky, turning the venue into the sport’s biggest stage. The championship runs through July 25 and remains free for spectators, giving fans a clear way into one of the season’s top events.

The Owensboro Convention Center listed the tournament as a six-day run from July 20 at 12:00 p.m. through July 25 at 12:00 p.m. The schedule includes game challenges, vendors, player meet-and-greets and family-friendly activities, while Visit Owensboro says the event brings some of the best players from across the globe together for one of the biggest stops of the year.

For competitors, the real stakes sit inside the American Cornhole Organization’s Season 21 Majors Tour. Those majors award World Ranking Points, and the organization says non-members can still enter select play-to-play events such as Bag Masters Quads. That gives the championship value beyond the main draw, with ranking consequences for members and a pathway for outside players who want in on the action.

Owensboro’s repeat turn as host adds to the event’s pull. Local coverage noted the championship returned after a successful 2023, reinforcing western Kentucky’s place on the cornhole calendar as a destination that can bring together marquee fields and large spectator crowds. With open access for fans, side events for players and a full week inside the convention center, Owensboro again became the center of the sport’s championship season.
